someone mentioned in the chinese papers recently about getting maids from PRC :yikes: but there are people who are against it, reasons given include:

      1. salary too low for them
      2. their 'seow san' reputation

I am a full time working mum so when mil feedback, I kinda pacify her & tell mil be patience as there are other maids a lot more worse. However, as this week I am having pretty bad flu & mc, staying at home & got to face her I also cannot tahan. She just has her own thinking & wrong assumption even in actual fact is white color but her mind process it as black so she just think its black. Its really frustrating & she just does things her own way. In the outlook she looks submissive & soft but she is actually quite stubborn & think highly of herself. Every mistake she does, when you pointed to her, she would say yes & sorry but then she keeps repeating it again.

Just did a phone interview with another maid from The same agent, already can detect that she is not honest through the phone! Another one Philipino I am quite ok but clash on schedule as she has to go back to Philipine in Dec for holiday. Headache !
        mine too :frustrated:
now, when she make a mistake also will not say sorry lor...

16 employment agencies fined for fixing maids' salaries

          By Amanda Tan

The Competition Commission of Singapore (CCS) has fined 16 employment agencies $152,563 for collectively fixing the monthly salaries of new Indonesian maids.

The agencies - which include big players like Nation Employment and Jack Focus - were found to have flouted anti-competition rules by meeting in January to discuss a collective pay increase for new Indonesian maids, from $380 to $450 a month.

The agencies said the pay revision was aimed at easing a supply crunch for Indonesian maids.

CCS said it decided to take action because the collective pay rise would affect many families in Singapore who hire domestic helpers.

          http://www.straitstimes.com/print/Break ... 18337.html

fixing the minimum pay is like a scam to fleece the employers and the maids, the number of months the maids got to work for 'no pay' to pay for the agency loan is still the same number of months, regardless of the monthly pay

          It's Judgement Day!!

These are the 16 maid agencies

My maid also will not say sorry now. Sigh. Maids nowadays really think highly of themselves and leave a lot to be desired. My maid still keeps forgetting and cuts corners when it comes to cleaning...there's a cleaning schedule so there is no excuse. She just refuses to scrub hard to get things clean. Hubby says send her back home but am trying to tahan cos a new maid can be much worse and have to retrain. It's almost a year and I usually increase my maid's salary... but with this kind of work performance and attitude, how to increase?

The irony is she is quite smart and I have no doubt that she can do a good job if she wants to... Really a pity. Am continually giving her pep talks to encourage her to work hard for her family and herself.

I feel if can do without a maid, will probably save a lot of money (food, water and electrical wastage) and lots of headache. Am just looking forward to the day I can be maidfree.

Probably because we make them do more cleaning than we do!![/quote]i know of one family who switched to using the washing machine because of the many pails of water the maid used to wash clothes. They used to handwash everything to conserve water.

I use the washing machine to wash almost everything anyway... so my utilities bill is quite high. However, when I listen whilst she is doing the dishes... can just hear the running of the tap for a longggg time.

Yesterday’s Straits Times mentioned that the market rate salary for Indonesian maids is $420 to $500. Is this information reliable and realisitc?

Know of 1 person who is waiting for her Philipina maid to arrive. Salary is $410 or $420. I thought Philipina maid’s salary higher than Indonesian?

Unless she's an experienced maid otherwise for a new maid I would say no. I think some employers were conned because of the recent 16 agencies' case which took a long time to close. As a result the $450+ salary issue for a new Indo maid was floating around for quite some time. I was approached on this issue recently and my advice to the other party is to get an Indo maid from another agency.

Ask yourself. If the issue is true then what do you think would happen to those existing Indo maids here? I believe you would see a mass runaway or going home cases. Mind you news do spread fast in the maid community.

In reading yesterday's paper and the news below

                        http://ph.news.yahoo.com/foreign-maids-snubbing-singapore-094006726.html?bcmt=1318130149966-4ce52128-9792-4432-b8aa-d52cbab2f493#ugccmt-container-b

They are always make comparison on only the issue of higher salary, day-off and nothing else and they would paint a very bad picture of our employers, our system and S'pore as a whole all in the aim of increasing the Indo maids' salary. They wouldn't dare to compare in terms of the EMPLOYMENT PACKAGE instead. As for day-off(s) or no day-off with compensation it'll be stated in the employment contract between the employer and maid as willing parties.

Our system and S'pore have strengths that other countries do not have and vice versa.

There's no official wording on the Indo gov to our gov on wanting a minimum salary for their maids. This issue was recently clarified in the papers by the Indo gov that what they wanted is to set up representative office here for helping their maids.

Also, if there's really a maid crunch issue our gov would know what to do.

So, please read the media with due care.
