GEP 2011 - Screening & Selection

I called my DS's FT last fri regarding the GEP result and she said the school has not heard fr MOE yet. Maybe they all fail to make it thats y no news?
If no one clears Round 2 it may be possible. But if no one in the school clears round 1 :?
Seems that the GE centers and those schools with significant number of students who clear round 1 disseminate information first. Any time lag for some schools which announce later could be due to arrangement of logistics as they have to charter buses to ferry the kids to the GE selection test school and attaching related admin details to the slip. I am surprised that some schools with >20 students who qualify do not arrange for transport eg a mini bus for them. I guess different schools regard the GEP round 2 differently as seen by small gestures like transport arrangement. -

Some schools would rather their brightest stay on in their current school so they may not want to encourage them to take GEP. So they wouldn't go out of their way to arrange bus services etc.toxic118:

:congrats: :congrats: heyhoe to both you and DS! :rahrah: :rahrah: -
Thanks, Champion. It was a pleasant surprise.
Good enough, to know he make it for 1st round although not too hopeful on the 2nd one. Anyway, DS1 said he prefers to stay in the same school as he wants to be there for DS2 next year. -

My older children never had a chartered bus from the school to go to the test centre, and it's the same case with this DS. The school actually prefers to keep the students rather than 'donate' them to the GEP schools, so no preparation and of course no bus, which I can perfectly understand why. I don't mind, though. GEP should be as 'natural' as possible. Even though my older children didn't make it past 2nd round, they still did well in school and at PSLE. They might have suffered in GEP if they'd made it with so much help from the school and/or parents. I have heard of children who quit after just a year in GEP.Snow Crystal:

What happens to children (who transferred to GEP sch) and quit GEP later? Are they automatically offered places in mainstream in the GEP school or can they return to their old school?

what happen to those kids who cannot make it in GEP after a year, or prefer to opt out after trying out? Will the school kick them out, or just transfer them to the mainstream classes within the same school? Either way, it's gonna be an awful feeling hor :gloomy:

They can return to old school or stay in current school mainstream according to GE branch.
