It is true that NJCian has to attend at least one term( I guess so!) of community living, i.e hostel lifestyle but I think you get to pick the term in the 4 years. Personally, I am not very concerned about the physical state of the building but the quality of educators and programmes offered.

btw, must we register for the 15oct open hse at NJc?
I am also not too concerned abt the physical aspects of the schoold but am hoping someone can share the differences between these 2 schools' cultures ...looks like no response ...maybe many parents dont visit this site that often anymore now that PSLE is over ...

when I visit NJC website, there is an icon for you to click and register for open house visit, i tried but kept failing to do so, I may try again tmr.

FYI here's the website http://www.njc.edu.sg/

My concern too. Has anyone replied? I attended the open house for DH but missed the earlier one for NJC this year. DH seniors seemed to paint a picture that they are very Chinese oriented and stereotypes kind of students. Before I guess (wild ones) further, it will be good if seniors from these institutions can speak up and comment on their unique characteristics. btw, do you have some info that you want to share as well? :thankyou:

Hi, I didnt attend open house for DH nor NJC, I heard the buiding / premises of NJC is pretty run down and that there is a boarding school program (???). can anyone share any info. ?

FYI NJC is having its 2nd open house this yr on Sat 15 Oct from 9 am to 3 pm.

If u have missed the open hse of DHS, it's a pity that there will not be one at the end of this yr.
Yes, NJC has a term of boarding program which is compulsory.

DHS being chinese oriented ?? Hmm......though it does have ACC ( appreciation of chinese culture prog)
where the pupils learn more of the chinese culture
like tea making and appreciation, introduction to chinese novels etc.....
It does not make these pupils more chinese oriented.....
In actual fact, it adds more fun to the curriculum...... 😄

Please go to the respective threads to read more abt these 2 schools if u wanna to find out more,
Those parents' exchange conversations will able to give u some feel of the 2 schools......happy reading...... 😄

It is certainly NOT true that in NJC you can pick the term for boarding.

In NJC, everyone must board for 1 term each year in the first 4 years. Which term to board is determined by the school.

For example, JH1 students being the youngest & newest always board at the last Term which is in Term 4 so as to allow them to be more familiar with the school & surroundings before boarding.

But don't worry about boarding, believe me the students look forward to the boarding & cannot wait to go during their first Year. It's like so much excitement for them like going forward to a holiday.
Personally, I am not very concerned about the physical state of the building but the quality of educators and programmes offered.
They are upgrading now so don't worry too much.

On the down side, their system is a bit haphazard. A lot of last minute instruction or last minute changes in instruction. Some of the teachers are also not up to par & not motivated enough or not equipped enuf to teach IP.

Their Office/Admin staff are also the worst I have encountered. Once they install an auto system to mark the kids' attendance like those punch card system, only that diff is they use finger print to detect. One day, I received a sms saying that my girl did not turn up for school. I was worried mad because I did I drop her off at the school main gate, worried as to why she did not make it to her class ?

I called the Office to check, the girl there have totally zero PR. She was just rude and took my number & told me she will check & get back to me. Until today, I have been waiting for her to call me. I understand on that day, the system cock-up & almost every parent receive the sms !

Hmmm ... maybe that is the standard of School Office Staff in Spore ? :frustrated:
