Hi all,
For some reason I am not getting any alertbfor new entry to this forum lately so have not been reading this lately. Look like we have more parents joining the forum. Welcome to the big family of TGPS.
Hi Astee,
We went to the moon cake festival celebration on Friday. My DS was very excited to see his friends. He ran around the school and "abandoned" the poor parents :-). It is good that the school organize such event for parents and teachers to get together. Appreciate the teachers to sacrifice their personal time for this. We had lots of yummy moon cake and fragrant tea.
We received the school notice that school is as usual for PSLE exam at the end of the month. Hope that it will be at the usual school hour :-).
Does anyone know of any good BASC around AMK or Bishan area? Been thinking of putting my DS there for the rest of the year while I sort out my working arrangement with the company. Any good recommendation will be highly appreciated. -
Hi Rejoice,
Yes, we had an enjoyable time at the mooncake festival celebration too. As for your question on BASC, i know there is one beside the school and their teachers/admin people come to TGPS to fetch the children to their CC. You can check out their website:

Now we are in the final term and SA2 will be taking place in about 2 weeks time. All the best to the kiddos who are sitting for their papers and last but not least,
Happy Children Day to all!!

Hi Astee and Rejoice,
Thank you for the warm welcome.
Rejoice,
We have recently enrolled DS into Ananias.
As we were there on a Sat, there weren't many students. Environment seems ok. We spoke to the center's supervisor who gave us a run down on what the daily programme is like (Shower, Lunch, Homework Supervision etc). As DS is currently in a childcare, it looks similar to what he's already used to. I like that the center will organise excursion during the school holidays. It also helps that the center teacher will fetch them from TGPS. If only, the center doesn't have TV programs. -
Hi Francoise,
Thanks for the information. May check it out after the holiday:-). Now DS is enjoying his four days holiday as P1 does not really has exam after the holiday. So we enjoy when we can :-). -
Hi Rejoice,
P1 has SA2 commencing 28 Oct to 2or 3Nov, so it will be good to use this 4 days to revise. Plus all the different task performance…so it’s not really a holiday for P1s…hehe. FT had given all the files to bring home for revision too. Good luck to your DS SA2.
Cheers,
astee -
Hi Rejoice,
Good luck!
Hi Astee,
So for P1, they’ll only have SA2. No more mid year exam right? How about tests? -
Hi Francoise,
For P1, the school uses a holistic assessment plan that review the child performance every term. Term 1 assessment is not taken into consideration to the final results as this is the kiddos transition period.
Fyi the breakdown is:
CA1 (Term1) : NA
SA1 (Term2): 20%
CA2 (Term3): 30%
SA2 (Term4): 50%
So Term 4 is the most critical \"period\"...hehe.
Having said this, this plan is for 2011 P1 children. Comes 2012, i am not sure if there might be new changes to the system as we now have a new MOE Minister. So you will have to wait for your DS upcoming orientation day to know more about 2012 assessment.
Happy Deepavali Holiday on 26 Oct and then final countdown for SA2...yippy! :imcool: -
Hi Astee,
We started "drilling" my DS after we came back from holiday. Guess he still not used to the exam culture and does not understand the need for revising and studying. This is hard especially he has a younger brother who does not need to study for tests and exams yet :-). Guess in P2, we will need to get him use to the routine of revising his studies after school daily. -
Hi Rejoice,
I shared your sentiment too, my DS is also thinking of all play and no study for the PSLE marking days. I had to really \"drilled\" the SA2 concept into his mind and body and soul..haha.
Yes, P1 are still in their K2 play mode and it does take times, especially boys, to understand the importance of the SAs.
Yup, we parents, are the ones that are more worried and excited about the whole SA thingy than the kiddos.
Cheers,
Astee -
Hahah Astee, very true. We are more worried than them. After sa2 over, we will need to think of holiday plan. Never ends. Haha
