I was late, so waiting for my copy now, but gives me time to go through Walter Isaacson's interviews on Youtube. Gosh, didn't realize the book's more than 600 pages! -

Just finished reading Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson. Funz, what do you think of it? -
 Not done reading it yet. I am at the part where he just started Apple Computer.
I think he was born at right time, right place. Jobs comes across as callous and self absorbed especially in his early years. His 'genious' must really be very obvious for people to recognise it despite is lack of grooming and prickly behaviour. Or maybe it is only in the US and during that era that he will have that opportunity to go so far. Put the college dropout bohemian Jobs in Singapore now and he will be written off immediately as a bum.
Still plodding through it. It is interesting but a bit dry for my taste. -

I so agree with you. I think it is the people (including Hewlett and the boss of Atari) who saw the better side of him (his self-motivation & confidence (too early to see any talent yet then) and were willing to give him a chance that put the pieces together. In Singapore? You might have been 'streamed' to even have reach that stage - and also credit to his foster parents who have made him feel 'special' despite him being adopted.Funz:
I came down with flu just 2 days after getting the book, so spent most time in bed reading the book. I like the way Isaacson puts together Steve Job's comments with those of his friends/rivals. It simultaneously shows different perspective of Jobs, which is not always favourable to the latter. But it is this that makes readers see Steve Jobs as human and not Godly, and finally have his life 'opened up' like he allowed his body to be (when he finally relented to surgery).Still plodding through it. It is interesting but a bit dry for my taste.
I like the way the book brings you back to the history of Apple and Pixar, his relationship with various Tech giants including Microsoft, Google, Xerox, and many more, how negotiations with the various industry leaders went through (including Hollywood, music and publishing), how he brought Apple around when it was sinking, his involvement with the Ad agencies and how products were developed in Apple.
I have to admit that at one point, towards the 3rd quarter of the book, I was getting a bit tired of his obsession of having everything under his control, including how he screwed reporters who wrote negative things about him. At that point, I was wondering if he would have become a dictator if he'd been a politician. But of course, like mentioned in the book, he wouldn't be diplomatic enough to make it. How true - with his obnoxious attitude and often blunt and crude frankness with people. He's really one of a kind. If we look around, might find people like him. The big difference is that he turned out to be successful, while others not, or at least, not as. -
Oh, by the way, I hate the thickness of the book. Makes reading clumsy. I finally had to peal off the cover, only wrapping it with transparent cover now that I’ve finished. Should have done it earlier!!
