This doesn't look like a p5/6 question.. more like MO type ..

Fig 1 = 1x3 + 1x2
Fig 2 = 2x4 + 2x2
Fig 3 = 3x5 + 3x2
Fig n = n x (n+2) + n x 2 = n(n+4) = (n+2)^2-4

10197 = (n+2)^2-4
(n+2)^2 = 10201
n+2 = sqrt(10201) = 101
n = 99

Fig 99 made up of 10197 X

There were 512 tickets to the YOG opening and closing ceremoney for sale. After 3/4 of the opening ceremony tickets were sold, the number of opening ceremony tickets left was 3/7 of the total number of tickets left.

a) How many closing ceremony tickets were there?
b) If the tickets were sold at $80 each, how much money was collected from the sales of the opening ceremony tickets?

Can anyone help with this question…my boy and I both tried this question but got a different answer from the answer key :

Garry had twice as many stamps as Henry. After Henry gave away 98 stamps, Garry had 4 times as many stamps as Henry. How many stamps did both of them have at first?

This is what I think...
Garry : Henry
2:1
and 2:1 is also equivalent to 4:2 (i.e. total 6 units)
one unit was given away (which is equivalent to 98 stamps) to achieve 4:1 ratio.
Before the one unit was given away, there were a total of 6 units.
Since one unit = 98, the total number of stamps originally was 6 x 98 = 588.

So Garry had 4x98 = 392 stamps at first
while Henry had 2x98 = 196 stamps at first.

There is no mention of sale of closing ceremony tickets...without this information, there will be more than 1 possible solution.

Assuming that no closing ceremony tickets were sold:
Opening tickets = 12u
Opening tickets left = 3u = 3/7 total remaining tickets--> remaining tickets = 7u
So, closing tickets = 4u

512 = 12u+4u = 16u
Closing tickets =4u = 1/4 x 512 = 128

after that, (b) is quite straightforward .

1) How many pupils are there in her class?
2)How many sweets does she have in her bag?

2)A florist sold twice as many roses as tulips and collected $400 in total.She collected $80 more on the tulips than the roses.Given that a tulip costs $2 more than a rose,find the cost of a rose.
