Using Secondary School material to prepare my PSLE kid
-
Hi parents,
I heard that POPULAR is recommending that we use Secondary School level books for practice for kids taking the PSLE especially for model English compositions and Science practice.
Anyone out there does this already?
Is it effective or too difficult for a P6 child to cope with?
Can someone recommend which books to buy?
Thanks! -
When did Popular started recommending books for practice? I’ve never heard of this before!

I think for many of the high scorers in PSLE this could be what they have doneHi parents,

some coaches for languages esp EL & CL actually do exactly that - Pri 5 practise on Pri 6, and Pri 6 practise on sec sch stuff
also, for example, some sec school actually uses sec 2 EL book for sec 1, and sec 2 uses book 3 etc and so on and so forth -
VKS2010, you made me
 :scared: I dread to think if this trend continues, I will be getting P6 materials for my DD when she is in P3 in a few years' time :yikes:.
Why is this education system (not only school, but tuition centres and KS parents out there) making life so difficult for everyone??? Will go :siao: if generation and generation gets more KS like this :nailbite:
On a lighter note, I'm so glad I've :siam: and not born in this generation. I doubt I can survive  :faint: -
I admit I am one of those parents that uses secondary materials on my primary kid, but only compositions. However, I do not encourage everyone to do this; if the child cannot cope, there can be adverse effects. In DD’s case, I did not force her to read secondary compositions. In fact, I caught her reading DS’s secondary composition guides one day and she actually enjoyed them, more so than her primary ones. Since then, I have been buying sec sample compositions for her.
Personally, I do not think that Popular should encourage parents to do that. It will take away the joy of learning and put the poor children under a lot of undue stress. -
I remember reading in threads here that parents/tutors recommend that P6 should read EPH Secondary schools science guides. One tutor even quoted a PSLE question that was from Secondary 1 assessment…can’t remember where is the thread now.
Popular is just a commerical establishment, parents want higher standard, they give ? -
Or popular staff could have noticed this trend in parents so when another parent come asking for advice, they share their observation

Last week, i went to popular to get some stuffs. I picked up a secondary 1 english practice book and began browsing it....
I was suprised :? that the practice is so similiar to p6's english: Synthesis, grammar, vocab, punctuation(i think there is) and etc.
Is Seconday 1's english similiar to p6? Can anyone tell me? Thanks ^^
(actually i thought that sec 1 is supposed to be difficult&different) -
