      1) There are 28 cars and motorcycles in a car park. If there are 78 wheels altogether, how many cars are there?
      Hi

Please refer to this link. There is a similar type of question.

There are some hens and cows on a farm. These animals have a total of 18 heads and 56 legs. How many cows and how many hens are there on the farm?

      http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=149&hilit=cows+hens&start=970

      Assume all were motorcycles.

      28*2 ----- 56
      78 - 56 ----- 22
      22/2 ----- 11

      11 cars.

      Best wishes

        6) 30 children attended a party. Each girl ate 3 chicken wings and each boy ate 4 chicken wings. The boys ate 36 more chicken wings than the girls. How many boys attended the party?
        Hi

Please refer to this link. There is a similar type of question.

There are 40 pupils in a class. If each boy is given 3 sweets and each girl is given 5 sweets, the girls will have 56 sweets more than the boys. How many girls are there in the class?

        http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=280&start=1570

For every increase of 1 girl, the difference in the number of chicken wings drops by 7

        120 - 36 ----- 84
        84/7 ----- 12

        Girls ----- 12
        Boys ----- 18

        Best wishes

          5) Mrs Kang paid $42 for 3 fish and 2 chickens. 2 fish cost as much as a chicken. What was the cost of the 2 chickens?
          Hi

          Fish ----- 1 unit
          Chicken ----- 2 units

          Cost for 2 chickens ------ 4 units
          Cost for 3 fish ----- 3 units

          7 units ----- 42
          1 unit ----- 6

          4 units ----- 24 (cost of 2 chickens)

Mrs Wong was short of $42 if she bought 5 similar vases so she bought 3 such vases and has $12 left. What was the cost of each vase?
            Hi

This is a question on “Excess and shortage”.
Some may call it “Gap and Difference” concept.

Please refer to this link. There is a similar type of question.

If Aziz buys 6 pens, he will have $6 left
If he buys 8 pens, he will be short of $2.
How much $ does he have?

            http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=149&hilit=excess+shortage&start=640

            42 + 12 ----- 54
            54/2 ----- 27 (cost of vase)

            Best wishes

              Hi

              8 units ----- 56
              1 unit ----- 7

              Apples ----- 3 units ------- 21

There are 57 coins in Box A and 256 coins in Box B. how many coins must be transferred from Box B to Box A so that there will be 47 more coins in Box B than Box A?
                Hi

The total number of coins remains the same.

                At first
                Box A ----- 57
                Box B ----- 256
                Total ----- 313

                In the end
                Box A ----- 133
                Box B ----- 180
                Total ----- 313

                Number of coins to be transferred ------ 256 – 180 ----- 76

                Best wishes
