English Assessment Books

Hi optimistforum,
For the vocab building, are you try to get him to learn a list of new words, including spelling, meanings, usage?
I may be barking up the wrong tree........If you have the list of the words and I know time is a factor, how about using games, and using the words in daily conversation, eg: I'm hungry, when are we having lunch?
, I'm famish, when are we having dinner? For games, can use scrabble and fashion a fishing word game. Or use the words and make up a silly and funny story.
If you are not adversed to right brain method, you might consider to record the list, meanings and usage, and play it to him when he's alseep. I've not use this method yet but will try next year when DD1 has show and tell
I know my suggestions are not very mainstream but sometimes assessment bks are not the best method.
Hi SAHM_TAN
You have hit the nail on the head. I am trying to dvelop my DC's working memory, as the tests that they will sit will be reasoning based tests that test working memory and cognitive skills. These tests are at the begining of his P5, and they can include words such as tranquil, subterfuge, loquatious, pigment, sobriety....etc.
I have printed off \"Potato Minds\" and I will be reading in my hotel bedroom tonight - as I am away from home on company business.
Hi Janet_lees88 - He does enjoy the EPH books, but hates reading - so hence is not picking up words the normal way. I will now use the wonderful \"Once a Week Comprehension\" by Hadyn Perry, to bring his reading up to speed, and I will use EPH Challenging English 4in1 to bring his Vocab up-to-speed. I also have the EPH and Preston S1 and S2 vocab books to enhance this area further. -
Hi optimistforum,
My son hates to read...daughter likes to be read to.
I have 'outsourced' this job to hubby, or he will be happily surfing net or watching TV :siam:
For Eng, it's getting tougher as kids go upwards. There is comprehension cloze, comprehension OE and synthesis which are killer sections. For synthesis, one wrong word/tense/verb means whole sentence is gone

Hi experienced mummies,
My child is entering P1 next year. Is it better to get assessment books after school starts? To get an idea what is school cirriculum? Or it doesn’t matter? -

A little rush and late to get when school reopens. You may need some time to go through the books before buying. Nov BookFest will be a good time to do so.Hi experienced mummies,
