The SG maths you mentioned, also by Edward ? That one looks easier to digest

Haha, you must have picked up his most mind blogging book. MG's books are for those who are keen in puzzles. If your kids enjoy reading and solving puzzles from Brain Benders (Murderous Maths), I think they will find MG's books fascinating.

You are mistaken. There are no Sg maths books by Edward Zaccaro. I wouldn't consider getting one even there are. Who could beat our very own local maths assessment authors in Sg maths syllabus? Edward's books are in no way for preparing a child for Sg maths. That's why my kids enjoy his books. Sg books for serious work, other books for fun.

i knew my #1 was gonna so called skip year cos she is 1 jan bb, so i started her on readg early. she can read a to z at 2, and simple bks at 3 both eng n ch. till now she is still a bookworm.

but i realise its actually no gd to be able to skip level, cos while she can cope wf p3 work tho she is only 8, it will be challenging to want her to excel or be at the top 5-10 or even 20% cos her maturity and logic hasnt set in yet as compared to her peers. this shows in comprehension, compo and math. she has to work harder than the rest. ie i must worker hard too to \"nurture\" her. stressful.
i didnt think of it and just conveniently follow the MOE guideline of 2 jan - 1 jan (of following year) to be one cohort. i alwaz comfort myslf to see as 32 Dec bb

My daughter is a Nov kid...the learning needs officer has assessed her and
found that she doesn't have any learning disabilities...she is slow in maturity and mental development. So have to accept that she is slow and needs constant reminders before moving on to teach her new stuff everytime. Very tiring doing that...cannot have too much expectations from her either.

Hi Janet,

I am not trying to comfort you but I stumbled across this in other forums - some kids whom their parents thought as slow or academically weak turned out to be of above average IQ (or even gifted) when tested. Don't label your child. Rather, have faith in yourself and your dd.

Probably.......but I am :scared: by those 'SERIOUS' books.....shall introduce DS when he completes his PSLE Thanks.

i find such kids, like my elder gal, need step by step coaching, constant reminders of the pitfalls (even if u hv to repeat 100 times), specific instruction cos they are not mature yet. and of cos they need more practices to drill them. no choice lah. but as long as u know their strengths and limitations, its more manageable.
