-
Hi voo voo, is ur DS1 an existing student of LP? Coz I also want to enroll my DS THERE next yr P1 but they said have not open e enrollment yet for new student. Have u got the schedule for P1 class next year?
-
No, he’s not. I called in Sep and arranged to do placement test 2 weeks back.
I’m sure enrollment opened…but if you want to go Thomson branch…gotta wait list until got vacancy then they will call you to go do placement test…I think sat 8.30am at Thomson and simei still available…a lot of their other weekend classes are full. -
Just to add that there are about 5 weekend sat classes at Thomson: 8.30, 10.30, 12.30, 2.30, 4.30 if I recall correctly…You let them know which one you would like to wait list…
As for Simei, only 8.30am sat class still available -
Twinkerbell:
Hi Twinkerbell, do they have branches in Yishun or anywhere nearby and how long is the phonics program? TIA.Hi BrownBelt
Learning Point is in Thomson Plaza and it is for K1 '12 children. Heard from friends that their children started with their phonics programme and is able to read very well at the end of program. Once the children completes the phonics program, they proceed with the writing program that prepares them for Pri 1. -
My K2 did Jan & Elly Phonics program from elementary to advance starting from mid Nursery and end by mid this year. She is K2 this year. Concurrently she also did LW creative english while she was with J&E.
She is currently doing Lcentral liftoff program.
My personal comments is that J&E provides a very strong foundation however 2 years is really long. So it took awhile to see results.
LW creative english, didn’t do much. They are a reading program but it was based on our revision with her so she did fine. I don’t see them engaging any methods to teach the kids to read.
For Lcentral, I only started her mid this year after her J&E program completed. I would say I see quickest results. Despite completing her advanced phonics, I always felt that blending doesn’t come naturally for her. After attending Lcentral for 4 months now, she really pick up alot of new words and fast. Sometimes I wonder if it’s a readiness thing. Eg. she is able to decode common sight words really fast now eg. disappointed, disappointment, boisterous, etc… I sort of regretted not sending her to lcentral much earlier. -
Hi MMM, which LCentral your gal goes to?
-
Hi MMM,
I sent my DD1 when she’s near 4 yo to ICR and she was placed in the TCS prog (LC’s = of foundation). After 3 months, she was promoted to PRP (LC’s = of Launchpad) which she stayed for 9 months as she took a long time to be able to blend. In comparison, I only showed my DD2 Starfall.com occasionally. To my surprise, she can blend simple words before turning 4 yo.
I can only conclude from my DDs that the ability to blend is a readiness thing and each child develop at a different pace. After knowing how to blend, the learning curve is very steep when given proper guidance. -

Hi,
any more comments on Learning Point? I am concern how the teacher can engage the 12 children’s attention in the class since P1 kids still need a lot of guidance. Anyone has any kid has gone thru the path & can share more? They also don’t allow parents to view the classroom. I have no idea what’s the set up of the class like.
