Raffles Girls' Primary

Luanee:
Thanks
Right, P2 to P3 is random. Only P3 to P4 is based on results.
My girl told me of her marks for Maths & CL (main paper). She has shown some improvement
For Maths I am especially worried as she has been quite careless, e.g. translation errors etc. But this time round think the idea of being \"carefuL\" has sunk in quite well into her head....
Hope this will continue
P3 is going to be a totally different ballgame altogether again !!

Aah me so kan cheong now... my dd has no hp so i need to wait for her to get home before calling me... btw does the school decide to offer HMT based on the HMT or normal MT results? I dont have high hope for my dd's HCL, maybe should consider dropping too...
Luanee/aqeqiq, to be selected for HMT the following year the student has to get at least an \"A\" (or 75) for MT NOT HMT.... this is what i understand for the school http://rgps.asknlearn.com/webshare/sharing/web/Parent%27s_Hdbook%2710a.pdf%20/url
Mine called me at recess with her  hcl marks. Don't think the school will offer her hcl next year with her kind of marks. Anyway, we had decided that she would drop it and this just confirms it.aqeqiq:

The E and F classes are the High Ability classes.

P3 parents - Wish to tap on your experience, for P2s going on to P3s, it will just be random allocation of classes, am I right?
Btw can anyone tell which are the 2 best classes in P4 besides the GEP classes? I rem we were aiming our dds to get to those 2 classes but now I cant rem which are those 2 classes lol..
Being kaypoh here - Saw that some parents are considering dropping HCL. Unless the child really cannot cope, I usually encourage the kids to continue taking them. Taking HCL has its advantages and I truly believe the exposure will help the kids' CL. Please reconsider.
Not kaypoh. I welcome all constructive input. I was thinking about letting her drop hcl in school but asking her tutor to teach her at hcl level. Does that make sense? Can share more about the advantages of doing hcl? Thanks! -

I think got hope. My dd's marks have been improving with her age as she is getting less careless.
ThanksLuanee:

The p4 subject banding slides are uploaded in the school's website. Go check it out.
Only recall banding for HCL whereby the E and F girls were put together with the GEPpers. Don't know if they will still carry on with that though.Luanee:
Btw is there a subject-based thing from P4 onwards? Such as they will group girls who are stronger in certain subjects together or what? -

As far as PSLE is concerned, HCL is only useful if you intend to use the bonus points for admission to a SAP secondary school. If you have no intention of applying for a SAP school and you think that taking HCL would be an added burden on your girl, then there's no harm dropping HCL.

The other advantage of taking HCL in primary school is that your dd's foundation will be there when she takes HCL in secondary school. But your plan to have the tutor coach her at HCL is good, bec she'll be doing Chinese at a higher level without the stress of taking the exam. And when she goes to secondary school she'll be ready to tackle HCL. -
Thanks, jtoh, for sharing.
The extra 1 to 3 points would certainly come in handy should one want to apply to SAP schools, like NYGH. Also because of the exposure to the language at a higher level, the children tend to encounter fewer problems in their Mother Tongue.
The other advantages are more for taking the subject at secondary level, like eligibility for 2 bonus points for admission into a junior college.
