My maid current salary with me is S$340 with no off day (we compensated her another $20 for no-off days as stated in contract). I am re-contracting her for another 2 years and give her two choice 1) up from $340 to $380 with $200 renewal bonus; 2) up from $340 to $390 without bonus. And she chose Option No.2. No off day remains, with her agreement of course.
She also knows if she changes employer, she probably gets higher pay. But she confessed to me she doesn't want to, coz the difference will mean to \"fork out more agency fee, wasting time waiting to transfer = wasting money, heavier house chores (coz her job now is very light with a small and simple family like us), and also no guarantee of landing a nice employer\" blah blah blah. She is the one telling me this. All is figured out by herself without me brain washing her. Lucky me.
But, I told her this is my offer to her. In any case, she is not happy with this arrangement, anytime she can ask for the change of employment (no need to wait till contract ends) and we won't hold her back if she doesn't feel happy working with us.
And for your info, most of my friends who are renewing their maid's contract, as of my knowledge, are offering no exceeding S$400/month after the increment. And quite some agencies as I heard, still quoting salaries of new maid starting pay from S$380; or even as low as S$360.
So don't panic. $450 is definitely not the norm.

:thankyou: this info comes in handy as I am likely to renew my helper's contract early next year but concern with the recent pay \"hike\" issue. My maid current salary with me is S$340 with no off day (we compensated her another $20 for no-off days as stated in contract). I was told by my agent that new salary for fresh Phil helper is now at $450 on top of increased agent fee. How I wish I can live without a helper... -

My maid told me that new maids from Philippines are getting $450 with 4 off days!!!
If my maid told me this, i will tell her to go find that agency and compensate me for whatever i paid up to her current agency. -

$450 for 7 yrs of working experience? If she goes to HK/Taiwan she can easily get $600/$800 with that kind of years of experience. From what I know new Filo maid salary is now $400 - $450 because my maid's sis is coming over in about a month's time with a salary of $400 and her cousin too is getting $450. Both are Filo maids

Yup, of course she can get more money elsewhere, so I told her quite frankly I am ok if she plans to move on to another employer or another country. I won't be paying $500 or $600... which I feel is too much. But she says she is ok to stay since she already knows us well, and we are flexible and nice to her. It's her choice. She has seen many cases of her friends who transfer to expat employer then end up with much unhappiness, so she says she'd rather not.

my Filo maid who was with us for 5 yrs plus, she’s now getting $480 and will have 2 months "bonus" when she complete her 6 yrs with us. The last 2 times she went back for home leave, we give about $150-$200 hongbao. Recently, I happen to talk about maid salary with a group of friends, and came to realise my maid is getting much more than my friends’ maid. Her work is not much also compared to theirs, and can sleep at 10pm, wake up 6.30am.
