DSA 2011

They just probably asked the kids during the interview which other schools they tried for and which ones they’ve heard back from.

Jtoh,
DS2 confirmed that at the NJC interview, they did ask him which other schools he applied for DSA and why he decided to apply to these schools. But at the time of the interview, the Hwa Chong DSA CO result was not out yet, neither did NJC ask him if he has received any other COs. -

I got the info thru someone's posting on this thread around the time the NJC DSA results came out.jtoh:

So far no one has mentioned on this thread about anyone who has a CO from NJC plus another school. -

This could be because NJC does not have a school based gifted programme like RI, HCI, NUSH and ACSI. In DS2's school, most of his GEP classmates apply to RI, HCI and NUSH because of their special programs for GEPers. In DS2's case, we went for the 2 schools that DS2 liked and was comfortable with after attending their talks. -

So your son is one of the rare GEP boy who did not apply for RI DSA ?

Thanks.
We attended the RI talk but somehow DS2 was not comfortable with RI. Too focussed on excellence that DS2 is scared. My son knows his own calibre! He is not the hardworking type, he may not survive RI!
:rotflmao:
NJC gave the impression that they will focus on overall development of the kids and in fact both DH and I like what we heard very much. Only drawback was the lack of a school based gifted programme which we finally reconciled that it is not essential. We may be wrong, but oh well, that's life, cannot have best of both worlds. :xedfingers: -

Surprised to find out that quite a few of his GEP classmates applied too but none were successful.
What's the other school that your DS applied and what's the outcome ? -
Maybe in previous years the NJC gave out COs to GEPpers and many turned them down in favour of RI/HCI etc. That’s why this year they decided not to give COS to them.

What's the other school that your DS applied and what's the outcome ?[/quote]The other school which DS2 applied for is HCI which all his classmates applied for too. He did not get that. I understand that HCI and RI needs average of >80 or something like that, and DS2 definitely did not achieve that. He was very disappointed with the HCI rejection, but fortunately received the NJC CO which boosted his morale. Otherwise he would have been totally devastated.
Maybe NJC liked that fact that he did not apply for many schools and was selective?? :scratchhead: We have actually received his Hast test results from NJC and I think he did pretty well. For one of the areas, he achieved >95% percentile and another at >75% percentile. Whatever it is, he is fortunate that he has the NJC CO. Whew!
How about your DS1? Which school did he apply for, and how's the outcome?
