The Alternative Story (TAS) - Discussion

Actually I do wish they put up notices in their centres about upcoming payments. I also get very blur about the dates. Just had to keep mumbling to myself to pay by end Oct. Haizz.

Just got my TAS vol 1 writing book. I must say it is very good. Can’t wait for vol 2!

Thanks hquek, but I think my friend's child does not like to read unless it is interesting.no worries ppnqq. Actually for English, the key is to read - widely and a lot. Teachers may be able to guide the child, but I think being exposed to, and using the language is more impt.
S2 is quite old already....may have to start getting stressed becos it's so close to O's.
If able, get the child to read more; go library and borrow books. Stuff like 'To Kill a Mockingbird', that's a great book. Authors like Neil Gaiman , Michael Morpurgo (that one could be a bit bit simple) are engaging.
Btw, those titles which you mentioned above, are those suitable for secondary school's? How is the standard or level like because I am thinking of getting it for my child if the book is really good because mine is a bookworm.

To kill a mockingbird should be sec level - I had that for literature.
Silas Marner was another good book - but this is considered classic so may be a bit cheem.
Neil Gaiman writes amazing stuff…ranges from easy to a bit deep (there is a love scene for eg in Stardust…so I won’t introduce that to DS1 just yet). His ‘Graveyard book’ is the best ever! DS1 read his ‘Odd and the Frost Giant’ - he loved it.
Philip Pullman books are very good also. I love his Clockwork, Count Karlstein. His books can be a bit dark, so maybe older kids can enjoy.
Michael Morpurgo likes to write about war stories. I find his stories generally engaging also. He has other stuff but those may be for younger kids (ie 7 and above).
Perhaps can consider author of ‘howl’s moving castle’? cant’ recall the name offhand. she has many books and fairly good sized.
What I’ve introduced are the more engaging writers - not necessarily the classics. Not sure if their grammar etc is considered good - but I had fun reading. Also, Harry Potter should be engaging even for reluctant readers. -

My daughter has joined TAS for a mth.... she has only done grammar, compo, open-ended compre n grammar cloze.... they don't do vocab. Any TAS mothers can comment?
My girl enjoys alot. But I worry abt the lack of exposure to vocab.
