Last year PSLE top scorer is Rosyth GEP student. He joined Mind Stretcher Learning Centre High Achiever class in Serangoon (meant for GEP student).

My son never clear round 2 of GEP test last year, but i called Mind Stretcher and he took a placement test @$10 (you can only take this test if your child P3 SA2 result has at least 85 marks). He passed this test and joined P4 high achiever english class. Their worksheets are really comprehensive, a lot of vocabulary and the worksheet is in P5 and P6 format (i have a dd in P6 this year so i know P6 format). From P5 onwards, Language subject will be 200 instead of 100 marks, so there are a lot more components. If your child can get into this High Achiever class, i would say it is a good start to prepare your child to P5 paper. And his high achiever class size is not big, 9 for this year. P5 class will start in Dec’2011.

You can PM me if you have more enquiries.

Do you know when he joined MS? and which subject?
May I know how they teach the comprehension section?
        Thanks

My dd attends chinese enrichment. No tuition for other subjects. So far she is coping with GE syllabus (not topping std like when in p1-3 lah but more than 80% and she's happy with that, so am I 😄 ). she did not ask for tuition for other subj.

Coping well in GEP without much enrichment.

          I'm impressed, Neko. :celebrate:

          Hi Neko,
Just curious, do you coach your dd in her studies (except chinese)? and your dd is all on her own? Will like to encourage some parents that this is possible without parent coaching and enrichment/tuition.[/quote]coach as in teach ? --> no (heh heh, I don't hv much patience!). if there is anythg she is not sure of, she'll approach her teachers for assistance. they are always very willing to help. her sch teachers also identify students who need extra help for remedial lessons. with teachers' support, most kids shd be able to cope. however, if a child is struggling over a period of time then I suppose tuition can be considered. it all depends on each child's needs/expectations.

dd & I do come up with revision schedule together nearer to exams. but she studies on her own (making notes, doing & marking past yr exam papers).

I do not know when he joined MS and i cannot remember if he did mention which subject he joined during the interview published in The Sunday Times last year. You might want to call MS Serangoon to ask, his name is ALex Tan.

They are like 10, 12 or 16 questions in the comprehension. PSLE format is 10Qs = 20marks, but being in the high achiever class so they will do more than 10. The class has to attempt all the Qs, teacher will ask everyone of them to contribute 1 answer to 1 particular Q, if the answer is wrong, the teacher will prompt to the correct answer, or the teacher will add in some ideas. If the answer is still not correct, teacher will then give the correct answer.

It helps that dd sets very realistic targets and is aware of her strengths and weaknesses. She is not amongst the top students but is happy with what she achieves.

And yes, her school/teachers/classmates are really wonderful! 😂 she's already lamenting how much she'll miss the school in future.

So he attended both TLL and MS? That's a lot of tuition. Or maybe he attended just one semester and the tuition centres are quickly jumping on the bandwagon to claim him as their student. 😄
