PMED you.Hi,
i will be bringing my girl for assessment at JE branch this saturday. Can anyone share with me her views about this centre and the teachers? Would appreciate if someone can PM me details for referral?
Thanks in advance! -
GSK:
No, my DD definitely can't write. She can only trace at this point of time.
Hi ZuEnZuEn:
Thank you MMM and sean wife.
Actually, I did speak to the teacher after the last lesson and the teacher commented that DD should be ready to move on to Launchpad this coming January. Just that I was wondering if there is a norm, a yardstick that I can use to measure DD's progress. Looks like there probably isnt. DD is enjoying herself and looking forward to going to her phonics class, which is definitely a plus point. The mummy on the other hand is of course hoping that she moves up soon so that it is less painful on the pocket.
Is your DD able to write and sound all the alphabets? I'm just wondering whether the child MUST know how to write the alphabets before going to the launchpad. And I'm asking because my ds (3yo) can sound most of the letters but he doesn't know how to write.
Thanks
Since she cant write, I suppose writing is not a criteria for moving to Launchpad. I think the teacher is only looking at whether she can recognise the first sound.
If I understand correctly, LC doesnt teach sound of the letters but more so emphasise on the first sound of the word.
I dont see alphabets in their workbook. -
Thanks ZuEn.
Noted your point. Thank you. -
24hr-mum:
Hi 24-hr mum,hi gaagaa
i m so surprised that the teacher say my boy can join PFS(prepare for sch). 2 mths ago, i did assessment at ICR, was asked to join ICR prelim class to learn the phonics!
the PFS is the usual grammar, vocab, compo, oral, compre class. not phonics class.
i m pleased wif the assessment n prob will sign up.
I refer back to your old post as I am facing somewhat of a same kind of problem as you did a year back…
My kids (K1 next year) have been attending LC Foundation and Launchpad for a while now…last week they were given assessment by 2 teachers at LC and they were able to read the passages and almost all the nonsensical phonetic words in the entry assessment test…one of the teacher also ask them to read the passages in Book3 of the Liftoff program, and they can do so at ease…but on the other hand, I know that they do not know those advanced phonics rules which are supposed to be covered in Liftoff…moreover they do not know much spelling…
Anyway based on the assessment, the teachers feel that they will be bored in Liftoff and proposed to their headquarters to do some kind of bridging curriculum in between Liftoff and PFS….I would like to know, since your DS was also not that well-versed in phonics when he started with PFS, did you notice that he had problems catching up with the writing (spelling) part of it in PFS?
Thanks! -
Hi mummies, may I know all much is the fees for LC foundation and launch pad? TIA

DS was in foundation for 2terms…got bored with repetition. teacher decided to give him more extra learning while still in 2nd term. good thing coz he was finally learning something new yet reinforcing what he oredi knew.
He is currently getting good at recognizing 1st sounds and can tell me which belong and those not by crossing out those. Im slowly training him to hear the last sounds as I am not too clear about how LC wants to teach middle sounds yet… I must say he is progressing fast. He is keen in writing too, so I let him write out letters that he want to do so in his workbooks.
he would be gg to launchpad when he goes n2 next yr, as per recommendation. But must prepare him to socially communicate with older children. -
