GEP 2011 - Screening & Selection
-
Hi, has anyone come across any gep kids who cannot cope and choose to leave the program, say end of P4 or P5. What are the possible reasons for them to leave the program? TIA

Thanks jtoh ! Nearest to my home is ACS but I heard that priority is given to current ACS boys who are selected for GEP,is that true ? My son is not from ACS.
Yes, priority goes to boys from ACPS and ACJS. That's why some years it's very difficult to get into ACS GEP bec many of the vacancies have already been taken up by the current boys. But if you live near the school, you can give it a try. You would have a better chance than those not living near the school.jtoh:
just received call from school that my son is selected for GEP, he passed all rounds without any training, he has no enrichment classes except for HMT at Hua...any advice from parents whether he shld be OK for the program?? we live in central, any advice on which GEP school to select ? Appreciate any advice, thanks v m !
Congrats! If he's been selected for GEP on his own efforts, he should be fine. All GEP centres teach the same syllabus, are tested on the same exams and all GEP teachers are specifically trained. So *in theory* there shouldn't be any difference between any of the centres. Choose a centre based on its distance from your home, whether you prefer an all-boys or co-ed school, HCL or not, religious considerations etc. -

Yes there are students who leave in P4 to go back to mainstream. Reasons are usually not being able to cope or inability to adjust to the new environment, stress etc. But there aren't that many. -
DS1 got in, DS1 got in!!!
Stress (for me) will kick in soon.... :nailbite: -
Does anyone has insight how MOE allocates the school?
My friend told me this year the GEP intake was only 300 students. Is it true? -
moe will tell you the no. Of intake during the briefing. Unlikely to be just 300.

Does anyone know total number of students were selected in your kids’ school for GEP? I know only 2 students were selected in St Anthony’s Primary School. Care to share?

All this info will be made available during the parents briefing. You can clarify any doubts you have at that time too.Does anyone has insight how MOE allocates the school?

Intake is unlikely to be 300. -
This thread ran into its 100th page !
