GEP 2011 - Screening & Selection

After talking with a few friends and parents over the last few days, my dh and I decided to let my son join GEP. For a simple reason that this is a rare opportunity and we don’t want him to miss it.


Although the program seems to be very tough and needs lots of commitments, some parents told me that their child never look back, and with hindsight they said they won’t want to go back to main stream.

As for allocation of school, I heard priority given to students who lived nearby, so distance seems to be the criteria of allocation. Though not sure if it applies to all school.

Rosyth is moving out to a temporarily campus for 2 years and they will have an in-house student care. So this may be helpful for parents who needs after school care for their child.

Hi, i’ve decided to chose Nanhua for my son. Anybody here send their child there too? Maybe we can know each other coming this saturday during the parents briefing. My younger son next year enter P1 so i also must transfer him too. Anybody with same experience to share when should i approach the school i wish to transfer my son to following his big bro GEP?

My DD told me that there are 6 from Woodgrove Pri School in Woodlands.
I am super stressed out now as I am staying in Woodlands.
There are no GEP schools in the North!!!

No, there is no GEP school in the North. My friend's DD chose RGS and she is staying in Sembawang. From her feedback, RGS GEP is good!

If your second son is entering P1 next year you should approach the school as soon as you can to indicate your interest in letting your younger son join his older brother in Nanhua. Have a word with the Nanhua reps during the briefing to sound them out. If there are vacancies they will try to accomodate your second son. If not, they'll put him on the waitlist.

Hey Chief, you may want to help us to tabulate the no. of GEP students from each Primary school and it will also help parents to have 1 more factor to make their choice of Primary schools. :rotflmao: Thanks to the parents who help to update the number. Thank you.

Toxic118, if NHPS don't have vacancy for your P1 boy, will you still go ahead? Do think about it. I remember my DS's year, Rosyth's principal was very accommodating to this request when the parents brought up this issue but did not hear anything from NHPS.

There's no harm done giving the school a call tomorrow to sound them out. But hor, remember that your elder son hasn't been posted there yet.

I feel young kids are like sponges. They can really absorb new knowledge of we do not place a limit on their learning or tell them they cannot get it. I think my DS might enjoy the Social Studies segment as he has a keen interest in local history. I feel overwhelmed just reading the booklet but I think DS is already super excited about the year ahead.


For us although Cat High is the nearest GEP school, we prefer a Christian non-SAP boys school which leaves us with ACS. DS loves playing chess and was in the school team. He hopes to go to a school with a good chess team & that will be ACS. He told us from the start that he hopes to study in ACS.

If we live in Toa Payoh, is that near enough a proximity for MOE to also consider our application for a place there?:)
