stressedoutdaddy:

Like sotongdad, I am here because of the power of google.

My DD told me that there are 6 from Woodgrove Pri School in Woodlands.
I am super stressed out now as I am staying in Woodlands.
There are no GEP schools in the North!!!
Help help help!!!

Hi stressedoutdaddy, can't help saying this to you. Now,you are already super stressed out by this problem, ke ke....,wait till your kid start GEP.
How about NYPS, they have very good bus transport system.

Yup.. any parents whose child is in NYPS GEP? I know that their mainstream did very well for PSLE but what about their GEP? Is it as outstanding? NYPS has a very big cohort and students likely to come from middle class family too. Would like to know more about the school and its culture?
TIA

I feel young kids are like sponges. They can really absorb new knowledge of we do not place a limit on their learning or tell them they cannot get it. ๐Ÿ™‚ I think my DS might enjoy the Social Studies segment as he has a keen interest in local history. I feel overwhelmed just reading the booklet but I think DS is already super excited about the year ahead.

For us although Cat High is the nearest GEP school, we prefer a Christian non-SAP boys school which leaves us with ACS. DS loves playing chess and was in the school team. He hopes to go to a school with a good chess team & that will be ACS. He told us from the start that he hopes to study in ACS. ๐Ÿ™‚

If we live in Toa Payoh, is that near enough a proximity for MOE to also consider our application for a place there?:)
I thot Cat High is also christian school ?

Cat High is a Roman Catholic school. ๐Ÿ™‚ We are Protestat Christians. Not Roman Catholic Christians. ๐Ÿ™‚ The theology and beliefs do differ although the same Father, Son and HS is being worshipped. ^.^\"

Hi all,

Finally I need to WAKE up for my honeymoon for DS studies and play a supportive role to DSโ€™s education.

Beside distance from home as mentioned, what about the past PSLE results? I realised that not all GEP sch post their past PSLE results. Also how many of the GEP sch their students are accepted, it would indirectly affecting our chances to the sch right?
From the earlier posts, these are what was mentioned
NYPS - 34,
SHPS - 10,

Can other parents from the other GEP sch advice?
MTIA.
Hi All...

Seldom post here. Found this thread because my DD got in too. Same like every parent here, have the dilemma of whether to accept and if yes, which school.

Saw somewhere that kids from girls' school stand a higher chance if their choice of GEP school is also all girls'?

Have you decided to go or not to go ? We are also in a dilemma ... thought just try for fun to roughly gauge where he stands, didn't really expect him to get in, now seems like if we don't let him go, it's like doing him a disservice ... but it's really far & nobody can pick up if he stays back after school and the programme seems to be quite challenging .... don't know if he can make it

If you read through the various GEP threads here you'll get a fair idea of the trials and tribulations GEP kids and their parents are experiencing, the good and bad, the work load... There is no one singular experience. Some kids embrace it and do really well. Some others are struggling, emotionally and academically.

Attend the parents briefing with your kid. Have a chat with the schools there, as well as ask GEB any questions you may have. Chances are you'll come away wanting to join GEP bec it is a marketing talk after all.
Hi Dagong99
My DD came back today and told me she wants to give it a shot.

Hi jtoh, thank you for your valuable input once again ๐Ÿ˜ƒ LOL on the marketing talk.. cant agree more.
Its a dilemma beween NYPS and RGPS now.. though i think we stand a slimmer chance for the former as my girl was not in HMT.

Good for your dd, felinej. ๐Ÿ™‚ As for your school choice, just put down your preferred school as the first choice. GEB will try to accomodate as far as possible. But there are schools which are more popular than others so demand might be more than vacancies available.

CHS is not independent school. As a govt-aided school, it's not allowed under MOE rulings for the school to force religion on the kids. If they pray for all the boys in the school, it'll just seem like a usual Christian prayer. Only the Catholic boys are asked to attend Mass, which is not even a frequent affair - at least in St Nics, they have mass regularly 1x/2x per week - but again, only those who want to go go, since it's held either real early at 7am or during a period when the non-Catholics can be having other activities.
