GEP 2011 - Screening & Selection
-
Hi all:) parents need to hv realistic expectation when ur child goes to GEP. They may not excel in every subjects like they used to. Hence, parents play a very important role in motivation aspect when kids do not perform as well as b4, even more so when ur kids hv bn top students or kids who r perfectionist. Most kids who hv passed round 2, most likely hv bn scoring 90 over or even full marks for the past 3 yrs. But take note that when then enter GEP, itz very unlikely, or i wud say, most kids won’t be able to achieve 90+ for every subjects. They may be getting 90+ for 1 or 2 subjects, with the rest getting 80+, 70+ oreven 60+!!!
All in all, wat I’m trying to say is, both parents n kids got to be mentally prepared, lots of adjustment required.
Don’t forget, happy parents, happy kids & vice versa. If parents r stressful, kids can definitely feel it too.
Last but not least, happy GEP journey. -

I thought I read somewhere there is a studentcare beside NYPS
But it will be good for us to know more about the number of classes and class sizes in RGPS and other GEP centres like Rosyth, Nanhua.
Whether these schools provide good after school care facilities for students!
Hope to hear from those who have been thru' the same stress!
Else u can arrange for the sch bus to send her to the student care u have in mind, that's what my SIL does for my niece. The sch bus would pick her up from student care in the afternoon and then send her home in the evening. -

Why withdraw?!..... All gep centers teach the same program and all geppers take the same common tests and exam .... So if the reason to put your kid into gep is to let the program stretch him and nurture him... Then not getting your first choice gep school shouldn't deter your kid from entering gep .... Jmo .....
Our problem is we do not have anyone else to look after him if he needs to travel far away or stay back after school hours, not that we want to get into the top GEP school, what we want is to have him safe & sound in student care in the school so that my DS can wait for us to pick him up ... if this is not possible, then we prefer to stay in his current school which also provide excellence programme for top performers, eg. SMOPS training, E2K, ICT, etc ...dagong99:
from what I know, if you are fixed on a particular school, just put in that school as first choice. And leave all the rest blank (ie 2nd , 3rd choice) and they will post you to the school of your choice. However if you list more than one choice, they tend to post to school that is nearest to your home with vacancy, even if thats your 3rd choice. If not happy with posting can appeal, and likely they will give it to you.
What if you request for a school of your choice but rejected, can we withdraw from GEP totally ? -
6 from st Andrews junior sch went in…all from the top class. My DS is one of the blessed 6 too.

Hi phankao,we \"spoke\" in the PSLE thread on DHS vs NJC when I was considering sec schools for my DD earlier...now I am looking at schools for DS the younger one for GEP, do you have a son in CHS ? Hear lots of gd feedback re CHS and its teachers in the GEP. Do you hv more to share ? Also, do you know how are non-Christian kids excluded or included in religious activities(if any) in ACS? Are bible studies compulsory in Christian schools ?
CHS is not independent school. As a govt-aided school, it's not allowed under MOE rulings for the school to force religion on the kids. If they pray for all the boys in the school, it'll just seem like a usual Christian prayer. Only the Catholic boys are asked to attend Mass, which is not even a frequent affair - at least in St Nics, they have mass regularly 1x/2x per week - but again, only those who want to go go, since it's held either real early at 7am or during a period when the non-Catholics can be having other activities.
Thanks ! -

Get to know last yr a family stay at yishun, was rejected from their first choice nyps as it is too far.

Is it a must that the student care needs to be within the sch premises?

My nieces from RGPS goes to student care in Bukit Batok near her home. Sch bus arrangement.
Ur DS current sch seems quite good as they do not deprive the non-GEPPers from the program. May I know which one? -
HPPS - 11 & both Pei Chun - 11 was offered GEP.
