      grammar: appreciative of

synthesis: he is worry --> wrong in the first place.
      should be: he is worried
so I think the ans is: he is worried about his 2 pet birds which refused to eat.

      \"Appreciative of\" shld be correct.
Synthesis, can it be : He is worried about his two pet birds refusal to eat.?? :?

      Shouldn't it be like this?
He is worried about his two pet birds' refusal to eat.
      Or
He is worried about his two pet birds which refused to eat. (Caroline's answer)

If you put it this way, then you have to put it like this: birds'; bird is wrong.

Yap, you're right. Shld be birds'.

My two pet birds refused to eat. I am worried.
            ________________about two my pet birds'_________

            Which answer is correct:

            a) I am worried about my two pet birds’ refusals to eat.
            or
            b) I am worried about my two pet birds' refusal to eat.

Should there a \"s' for refusal since it refers to two birds?

refusal. It does not depend on the no. of birds.

side-track a bit…for synthesis marking scheme, is it you either get 2 marks or 0 ? I see the way my son’s teacher marks, even the slightest spelling mistake he will get 0 marks, never 0.5 or 1.5 marks.

I checked the dictionary before my earlier posting. Refusal can be a countable or uncountable noun. So when do we use it as a countable noun?

So when do you use refusals?

Another question was something like that:

All of them do not like to play chess except Ellen.
                      Can use 'except for' instead?

                      Anyone can confirm correct answers?

If the sentence structure is like that, you can only use \"except\", not \"instead\", or else it will be wrong.
