ds2 was selected for GEP. We did not expect it as he did not show any clear potiential. I am worried as to whether he can cope with the demand of the course. Anyone who has come across similar case, where the child does not show clear potential fr P1 to P3 but survive and doing well in the GEP? Ds2 did not go for any GEP training classes. He did not join any maths enrichment too.

I dont have any prior experience to share, my elder child a girl is always in the top class but didnt get selected for GEP after round 2 but she gets good grades in the mainstream. My DS although in top class, his grades aren't as impressive as his elder sister. He made it for GEP. Like you son, he doesnt attend enrichment classes except for Chinese. He is also v playful and do things at the last minute. However, he is a child who talks alot and asks a lot even in class (his teacher told me).

I hv my concerns too like you - would he be able to cope? Then I took a step back and thought, the teaching materials and methodology will be diff from mainstream, it may actually benefit him more because of his infinite curiosity. So your DS may not hv fantastic results now but if put in an environment that suits him, he may excel, hence there is a possibility that your DS may do better in GEP.

Just my opinion to share with you, that's all šŸ™‚

Mine similar to OrangeJuice. DS1 also among the top few in his level, went for GEP round 2 but didn't make it. DS1 is hardworking & results-oriented. DS2 total opposite but yet make it to GEP. DS1 said he wishes he can go GEP, DS2 a bit hesitant after I went through with him what's inside GEP before taking the plunge. But we will let him decide himself ... ultimately he's going to be the one doing it, so we respect his decision.
Hi OrangeJuice and dagong99,
Thanks for your sharings too. Hope our ds will do well and be happy in the new environment next year. šŸ˜„

Just in case anyone needs to know the details of the briefing-

NUS High School of Maths and Science is at Clementi Ave 1

Kids need to register at 0845. They will tell us which classroom to find them afterwards at this point.

Parents in the hall and students in the auditorium at 0915

Briefing begins at 0930

Picking up of students from classrooms at 1115

Viewing of exhibition booths at 1130

Park along Ave 1, at Nan Hua or at the HDB carparks. šŸ™‚

Do the kids need to wear their school uniform for the briefing?

Yes there is only a form to submit. I checked the envelop, only 2 set of white papers - form and a notice to parent.

on the notice
note 5: kids to report in his/her sch uniform
note 7: Can submit the form on 12 nov @ the Informatin Desk for parents
note 8: If need more time, then MUST submit by 16 Nov 2011, 5pm to the GE Branch office. <- this is by hand or mail?!? But can submit via FAX also.

Glad tt that don't happen in my Ds school or at least not his cohort ..

Vlim, Mind me asking whst school did your DS come from ?

Also for parents already with kids in GEP, may I ask do you know roughly what % of your DD/DS classmates attend TLL ?

Both my kids don't attend enrichment classes except for MT. My DD from mainstream has many classmates who attend TLL but she is hardworking and did well enough not to lag behind them in class, in fact even better than some who do. I don't have plans to send DS to any enrichment
classes after he starts the GEP. My question is - if he is like his elder sister and puts in his own effort, would it as \"easy\" for him to cope in the GEP class ? Perhaps it is easier to do so in mainstream but for GEP syllabus it is tougher ?

Thanks for sharing !

Hi my Ds from rosyth and at time I do stand at roadside to wait for him t come out from rosyth šŸ˜‰ ....
Jokes apart... My Ds only has chinese tuition.. And he is able to cope with the Ge programme without other tuition.. Infact I think , for him, instead of spending times on tuitions ( except cl), he is using the time to produce
more quality assignment/projects works plus of course doing worksheets .. He need time and space for critical and analytical thinking ...
Emmmmm... Of course some do find tuition helpful to them . ... Like my p3 dd ...šŸ˜„
Thank you vlim šŸ˜„

Went to recce NYPS and check out travelling and walking time by public transport. Quite a fair bit of walking from Farrer MRT station I must say. And if bad weather confirm will be drench.

NHPS and HPPS easier route from where I am located. DD dont like HPPS so we are down to NHPS or NYPS. Will decide after Sat's briefing........
Wah, so hardworking, so not 'sotong' afterall, keke... may I know why your dd doesn't like HPPS. I thought they have a very big nice library?

Last year, we went on time, so had to bypass the exhibition booths and straight to the auditorium. We missed some of the 'goodies bags' handed out by the more popular school booths. So for the more KS parents, go a little bit early and collect all these \"goodies bags\" which can contains useful info. about the schools ( & some have opening house info. ). Hope that this practice is still the same this year. Don't :nunchuk: me if there isn't any \"goodies bags\" this year, hor!

If not for this GEP selection, I will never know where NYPS is located, that's how sotong I am, hehe. I have to recce the place because my DD will be taking public transport.

Her impression of HPPS students not so good based on her observation during the GEP test at NHPS, where she get to see students from other schools. Now sure exactly what is it but she says she dont want to go HPPS. 🤷
