When it comes to theories and hypothesis regarding the human mind, nothing is cast in stone.
When dealing with people, there are too many variables and dynamics for anything to be 100% applicable to everyone at all time. So just take them as a good base to a better understanding of the subject involved. -
aiyo..my boy he can highlight the keywords, but still see wrongly! :stupid:
eg, he can circle the keyword 'ascending' order and yet give answer as 'descending' order! (he understand the difference in meaning ah!) -

this tells him to arrange from small numbers to big numbers. Descending order is the other way around. Seems to work for him. I think just the act of drawing the circles will focus his mind on the question at hand. -

Yup! I do find Piaget very useful too in that way. Whatever the theory, I test it with common sense too. It's safer for my clients.

The part in red is what has been falsified again and again (with average kids). This means that the stages of cognitive development dun necessarily follow in the order specified... and the earlier levels dun have to be mastered before the later levels. It seems that there is a dynamism of movement across the stages.Piaget provides a good framework that I find is applicable to 'average' kids (based on the thousands of kids who go in and out of my doors). For those special needs kinds, Piaget's framework will not be applicable to them. Developmental stages of 'average' kids so far I observed are +/- from what Piaget documented and it will not be too far from what he documented.
This is not my personal opinion though... I dun have enough experience to develop a strong opinion here. It's what I have read again and again in textbooks and journals when I browse quickly looking for something else.insider:
Physical development is easier to observe than cognitive. It may not be wise to assume that cognitive development is similar to physical. Psychologists dun assume this anymore I dun think. But well... I really am not very familiar with the field. You probably know better. Also... I read fast and Piaget has not been the focus of any of my searches in 2 decades... so maybe I read wrongly.It's similar to the physical growth of kids from infancy onwards. Developmentally speaking, as a milestone, most babies will start walking and talking at around 12 months but that doesn't stop some babies from walking from 9 months or 15 months and talking from 9 months or 3 years but we cannot say the milestone is severely flawed that we don't need to pay attention to.
