no. to me, except for is not proper eng, but singlish.


sorry I do not know when to use refusals.

for your boy’s ans, he must put comma as follows:
all of them, except Ellen, do not like to play chess.

in eng, verb must follow noun. so "do" must be after "them"

I think correct ans must be:
all of them do not like to play chess except Ellen.
