No need to do marketing la, sure over subscribed. NYPS going to have 4 classes next year. If intake not controlled by moe, I guess 10 classes also not enough :evil:sleepy:
I saw very strong teamwork in NYPS, maybe they were wearing the same T-shirt that gave me that feeling. Also I did not see very strong marketing effort from them compared to other booths. Very academic driven in a sense.
10 classes also not enough?! Do you really think that parents staying in the extreme north, east & west of Spore will send their kids to NYPS for its GEP? If they really do that, I wonder if they are more concerned of the well-being of their kids, or of their academic results (just imagine the travelling their poor kids must go through everyday!).
I think this 'GEP @NYPS is better than GEP @other GEP schools' thingy is highly over-rated! I believe all GEP schools are equally good, or else they will not be selected as GEP centers by MOE, right?
There are GEP schools all around Spore to cater to students from different parts of Spore, so that parents can choose a GEP school that is not far from their homes, and their kids need not spend too much time traveling to & from school everyday.
Parents, please choose a GEP school that is near to your home. GEP is a highly demanding progamme that requires a lot of your kids' time & energy. Your kids may also need to stay back in school for projects & other enrichment courses many times a week. Your kids need to have plenty of therest, so that they can have the energy (mental & physical) to meet the high demands of GEP. Do not let your kids' energy be depleted through unnecessary traveling!
Parents, do not follow the crowd blindly.. Remember, your kids' well-being
is most important, at all times!
-
Lol. I selected a GEP non-SAP school closest to my home at Toa Payoh but they said they will give place to affiliated schools, mission schools and then "others". Felt v slighted at their booth by the teacher we spoke to. Almost wanted to change the order of choice on our DS’s form but we respect his decision.
As aforementioned, we are also Protestant Christians with Methodist background and my Dad is an ACS old boy (I am his only child and a girl). DS is from his school’s elite chess team.
So my question is- how would MOE consider placement of the child in such a scenario? Is it MOE or the school that has the final say? -
A number of dd's classmates opt for nanyang le. From one end to another!
dh's friend also sending his ds all the way from sembawang to nanyang  -
I think most of the places would have gone to their own students from the 2 schools (heard about 20+ from one so assuming similar number of kids from the other school that would be around 40+ for both). :scratchhead:

Schools such as ACSP will also be a tough fight. Assuming ACSP n ACSJ have 10+ each, they wld already take up 1 class.
Then other affiliated schools in the Methodist church such as Fairfield or Geylang Methodist PS probably will have higher chances…and others Christian schools…so not many places left -

I believe it's decided by MOE. Especially in over subscribed case, they will have to make a decision. During the briefing, they already gave an indication on the number of classes in each school
Not that many options near my house, 2 'nearest' schools are both more than 3km away! So I didn't even bother to fill in all 4 choices since it's up to MOE to reshuffle anyway. Should be either one of the 2, the others are more than 10km away, no way to be posted that far. -
How are pupils posted to the schools in the GEP?
In the primary GEP, if the pupil is from a school that offers the programme, then the pupil could choose to remain in the school. A pupil would be posted to a school of his/her choice as long as there is a vacancy. If there are more applicants than vacancies, other criteria would apply. A pupil applying for a SAP school would be given preference if he/she comes from a SAP school. Likewise for a pupil applying for a single-sex school if he/she comes from a single-sex school. All else being equal, distance of school from home is an important factor.
It was discussed before, they will try to match the new school with the previous school like what they stated above. They prob have a checklist and see if u 'scored' enough to get to the school of your choice. -

This is the impression I gathered from reading this thread le.
And personally also know of parents who opt for nanyang despites the great distance, although I am not sure whether they will get their first choice or not since posting result is not out yet
Agreed with you on the distance. I opt for the nearest possible.
3 years is a long period of time to travel across island, weathering the traffic jam everyday. Just imagining the long drive & waking up earlier I already feel very sleepy :rotflmao:
However, I must say I do 佩服 other parents' determination & perseverance if they are willing to do that.
