          mutree:
sorry to interrupt.. I am looking around for a primary school to volunteer in for my daughter. I am rather interesting in Kuo Chuan, although I live next to Ai Tong. May I ask for advice in a few things? more tips are surely welcomed!

          1) homework load?
          2) what are the christian \"elements\" in the school?
          3) stressful enviornment in general?
Aiya I also am not too sure what to find out. may be just some comments about your experience with kuo chuan so far? really appreciate if you could help
          1) & 3) the homework is still manageable at lower pri. Come P5-6, homework increases exponentially, but this phenomenon is found in every school. Hw load also depends on which teacher you get.

Most of the time, homework level is corelated with stress. Generally, i find that the sch puts more stress on the top 2 classes. but again, it depends on the individual kid how well he manages expectations / stress that come along. actually, i find that the kids cope better. it's kiasu parents who feel the stress.

          2) there is chapel and character building programme. Boys Brigade and Girls Brigade also impart christian values through their activities.

          Hope this helps. 😄

            dear 2012 p1 parents

wow … you all very "on". But just a word of caution about scanning and distributing the books via PDF … you may infringe on copyright issues.

actually in preparation for the activity, only need to read minimum 1 Eng and 1 MT book from the list given. The child is only required to dress up as 1 character. So no need to get all the books. If can’t find the books, just browse bookstore or library for other story books that teach character. There are plenty around.

Can encourage reading habits using other books. So don’t stress over getting these books. The festival is supposed to be fun.

Don’t think it is worth buying the books. Costly and also a bit too easy for P1. After the festival, the book will just be sitting on the shelf collecting dust.

Oh,they were selling sch shoes on site...claimed to b bestselling sch shoes. R u all considering that pair? Im not sure to get that or adidas/nike kind... Pls advise

the shoes do look sturdier than those sold at bata. but i didn't like it that the man was quite evasive about where his storehouse was and he didn't want people buying from his storehouse at yishun. no name card. must buy, pay on the spot and collect at a indefinite date.

anyway, i didn't bring enough $ that day to buy the shoes and i won't be able to collect from him on 1 Dec also.

generally, any black shoes will do. pls take note if you have boys who like to play soccer in sch, their black shoes will wear out VERY fast. So no need to buy too good ones. 😄

Yeah, thanks for caution.nearly forgot abt it...

I duno abt p1 reading standard though there r kids who read at higher levels. For me,if picture book teaches gd stuff,i'd still buy. Im sure p1 teachers will have to deal with various capabilities coming in...
