      Hmmmm - I am not sure I agree with you Mrs Low. Many students' concepts are clear and they would be able to handle these very sums if they just had more time. We have to look at the entire PSLE paper and not just these few questions we are discussing and under exam conditions.

      It is very easy as an adult to expect perfection in all that's done, but i wonder if we remember these kids are just 11 or 12. This is an age to develop a love for the subject and kindle a passion for something they wld like to pursue later in life. And sorry scholars can bloom any time, if they are given the time and support to pursue their passion. Did you read abt the latest Nobel Prize winners ? Nothing close to the kind of scholars you are referring to ....

      Sorry if i sound too strong, but truly there needs to b a mind set change ...

      Having not enough time seemed to be the number one problem.
      Hope parents take this early and train SPEED.

      My little one finished paper2 with 40 min to go.
      Her speed is limited to how fast she can write and how fast she can punch the calculator.

      :shock:

      kidding

            Thanks. šŸ™‚ I think that everyone just teaches me to do that. Well, there are times when my calculator is in my bag and I just can't be bothered to find it so I just have to do it mentally. šŸ˜›

              ...then it is possible that Lin's speed could be more than Mei's.

              How is that possible? If Mei was ahead of Lin, then obviously she was faster than Lin...

              And BTW, am I the only 1 who thought the paper was really easy? -.-

              Please don't act clever. As a child, even you feel that the questions are easy but you will never know if you got correct for every question that you think that is easy.
              I think is year is the first year using calculator so, the question might be more challenging as there is the use of calculator.
              The last few years PSLE the 4 marks questions only has 4 steps and 5 marks questions only has 5 Steps but as you can see the Mei and Lin 's question is only 3 marks and it is quite a thinking question. And the answer for that question is 11.06am

              There is another question which came out in today's newspaper.
              This is quite difficult and it is a 4 marks question. Here it is ( this is word for word ) :
              Jim bought some chocolates and gave half of it to Ken. Ken bought some sweets and gave half of it to Jim. Jim ate 12 sweets and Ken ate 18 chocolates. The ratio of Jim's sweets to chocolates became 1 : 7 and the ratio of Ken's sweets to chocolates became 1:4. How many sweets did Ken buy?

              Answer: 68 sweets

              It is difficult as you only know that the chocolates that Ken eat is 3 units because Jim did not eat any chocolate and the units of sweets is unknown.

              And there is also another question about the balloon.

              String of 2 big balloons is 90cm
              String of 5 small balloons is is 1.2m
              If both strings are of the same length, there would be 105 more small balloons than the big balloons. How many balloons are there altogether?

              Actually they are trying to say that the person cut the string into two equal length and tie the balloons. There is many many 90cm and many many 1.2m.

              This are the steps to solve the question:
              Convert 90cm to 0.9m

              2/0.9x1.2=8/3
              8/3 convert to whole number means 8/3x3=8
              5x3=15
              15-8=7
              7 units --> 105
              15+8 units--> 105/7x23=345
              So the answer for this question is 345 balloons.

                Mei could not have crossed the finishing line when Lin was at the mid-point.[/quote]Yes she can when the distance of the race is 7km. But you are right that Mie cannot be 3.5km ahead if the distance of the race is less than 7km unless she kept on cycling after the finishing line.

                Hence there is another assumption that Mei stopped cycling after the finishing line :lol:

                  Tremendous pressure will be on this year's P5 students who will take PSLE next year. Have to prepare my P5 students early for that eventuality. I shall not take in new students and shall focus on helping those who are now working with me for PSLE 2010. http://www.psle2010.blogspot.com

They stop cycling after the finishing point. If not, every question will be un-doable. Like...seriously.

                        You hit the nail on the head! Spot on! karmeleon.

                        I feel that lots of forummers here are providing solutions for a purpose only (we know who they are..shall not list them here..don't want to start a war)...unlike a few genuine helpful ones like tianzhu, dharma and vanilla cake.

                        If it's just to share the answers, they're most welcome to do so...But lately, I feel that the forum is fast becoming a free billboard with so many tutors jumping in offering solutions (and their sterling credentials) that have already been given...if you get my drift.
