GEP 2011 - Screening & Selection
-
Am wondering how many parents chose Nanhua as 1st choice fr KP forum here?
I decided to let my son walk to Nanhua next year which may take up to 25 mins when iβm not available to fetch him as heβs been taking things for granted all these while compare to waking up at 7am and take jus 5 mins walk fr home at the moment. -

emmm... parents...be sensitive abt the above issue..... as i belong to the group..
You went for gifted training arh? Me thinks hippos should focus on learning how to dance the Swan Lake first.

My DS told me just now that among 5 selected in his class for GEP, only 1 is the prize winner this year in his level (Not my DS). Hence, good grades in exam not necessary guarantee a place in GEP.
There is a classmate who was not selected for GEP got scolded by his parents. I suppose the parents were heartache of the :moneyflies: :moneyflies: :moneyflies: -

Academically gifted doesn't necessarily mean the kid will do well in exams. Gifted but lazy won't get you very far in life, in my opinion. My DS told me just now that among 5 selected in his class for GEP, only 1 is the prize winner this year in his level (Not my DS). Hence, good grades in exam not necessary guarantee a place in GEP.

Sometimes I think some parents take GEP too seriously. Why scold the child if he/she couldn't get into GEP? It just means the kid is better off in mainstream. -

hi, if you are looking at ACPS, I have a friend who is a mom with a son at ACJS and she told me a total of 93 ACS boys sat for GEP round 2 and 17 from ACJS got in and less than 10 from ACPS....hope this helps...also FYI all kids taking schoolbus to ACPS must reach school by 6:50 am, so for my DS even tho we are within 2 km to the school, if we choose ACS and take schoolbus the pick up time is 6 to 6;15 am, just FYI tooshalomger:
Lol. I selected a GEP non-SAP school closest to my home at Toa Payoh but they said they will give place to affiliated schools, mission schools and then \"others\". Felt v slighted at their booth by the teacher we spoke to. Almost wanted to change the order of choice on our DS's form but we respect his decision.
As aforementioned, we are also Protestant Christians with Methodist background and my Dad is an ACS old boy (I am his only child and a girl). DS is from his school's elite chess team.
So my question is- how would MOE consider placement of the child in such a scenario? Is it MOE or the school that has the final say?
Thank U, Orange Juice.
Just gonna trust that the LORD will surround DS1 with favour as a shield.
