Conducted an experiment today with my 3 personal guinea pigs (all x-PSLE Math A* - showoff right? no lah, just an indication of their past competency) to find out how tough those questions are.
They managed to solve the questions but the time taken was not impressive.
Considering that they are much older, existing students and working under very relax mood - conclusion - the questions are indeed very very tough. On the other hand, the poor P6 kids are working under tremendous pressure.
To those students who can see the solution easily, well done (but please be humble).
To those who can’t solve them - we are normal and I am glad that I am normal.
The one thing that I find extremely disturbing with some of the questions though, are the way they are phrased. Wish I can see the actual questions. However, from what everyone has posted in the different forum, (which can’t be too far off) I wondered if it is a Math or English paper. Till now I’m still wondering what does "… stringing 2 big balloons" mean. If the questions are written in plain simple English with proper illustration, I am sure many more students could have handled them. -

My friends and I think that the paper is normal, not as difficult as you think. Most of the methods were taught by our school maths teacher. My boys is an average P6 student. He has put in tremendous effort in improving his Maths. After maths paper, i've received SMS that it was a tough paper. Needless to say, my son must be very upset and disappointed. The moment he got into my car, i just asked him \" did u do your best?\" and he said \"yes\". I told him that as long as he did his best, that will do. And we moved on and did not dwell in that Maths subject anymore.
I know that education system in Singapore is tough. But not doing well in PSLE is not the end of their future(and we should not be giving them that impression).
I know my son belongs to the \"late bloomer\" type and i do not push him too hard to study. To me, his character development is more important.
Parents, don't be too upset if your kids can't make it to your/their dream schools. It's really not the end

yes, I agree with you. My girl is also very weak in maths. I think she only gets 1- 2 questions correct. But she has her strong points too – she is an obedient girl and good in chinese, of course not as good as those PRCs. -
my daughter found it quite easy but she said many others said it was quite difficult . the second last question’s answer , is it 126 , 150 or 160 ? her friend from st. hilda said that the teacher said it was 126 . but how is it possible ? anyone’s kids put 126 ?

kk maybe somewhat difficult but at least i finished everything and never leave any blank and never guess any

Like...seriously[/quote]You are obviously naive. I said THIS question is not clear... not ALL questions. It is too open ended and is subject to many assumptions. If we as forumers cannot even think of the box, there is little hope for our kids. The answer is 21 minutes but it only holds true if everyone makes the same unstated assumptions. :stupid:
They could have set a harder question but be much clearer. Also since the questions are not published it is not transparent for debate.
You can see below that Mei can still cycle after finishing the race to achieve those conditions. I've just proven you wrong;-) :lol:
