Alamak, you guys make me out to be such a slave-driver.

I want more time for him to be at home to R-E-S-T...with 2 days of suppl lessons, I see him less and poor boy is tired after that. An extra day in a week will mean he gets ample rest and some play.

\"My son also was recommended to drop HCL. After consulting his tutor and assessing his level of interest, we decided to follow the school recommendation.\"

I decided on the opposite -opted against the sch's recommendation. Hopefully the sch accepts our appln.

Same. My hubby decided to opt against sch's recommendation. He believed in my girl.
Come to think abt it, I also believed she can do it if she regain back her confidence soon, v soon else.....

PH called me up today and asked me a strange question -- why i don't want son to do HCL next yr? :scratchhead: I said the school recommended NCL what, so we just followed. she said the recommendation is based on MOE criteria must get at least 80 marks for P4, but parents can still override. :scratchhead: ok, what is the difference between HCL and NCL. she said HCL will have around 4 more CL lessons per week at the expense of the other subjects. :yikes: So what does the school think? should he take and do they think he can cope? She said most ppl in his class are taking HCL, only a handful opted not to. Some also in the same mark range as my son. In the end i gave up and changed to HCL.

Btw, the piano teacher told us he is ready to start practising for his grade 1 exam :rahrah: after undergoing 7 mths of learning. I dunno if this is considered the norm or already slow but I am very happy with his progress.

That's considered as fast in my books. My ds has been learning for 3 yrs before he began to practise grade 1 pieces.

Your boy started young, fingers not so long then. My elder boy learnt piano after K2, before P1, also took a long time before completing grade 1.

Did you let him sat for the grade 1 exam? I am thinking of skipping grade 1 exam, just go on to learning grade 2, then take grade 2 exam. Hopefully can find time to do so before sitting for his PSLE. My elder boy's sec classmate sat for his grade 2 last July.
