Actually for this age group, it's not just motivation. It's how the teacher is experienced with the young ones to teach it in an interesting way (toys, games, analogies), break down tasks. My youngest started piano at 35mths and violin shortly after. And most importantly, the parental support in daily practices.oh, forgot to mention

dats y I said d tcr muz b experienced in ti age grp. cos not all iano tcrs r gd wif such yg kids.
If d teacher is experienced n make d lessons interesting for d children, they will enjoy & motivated to continue learning.

To add to this, admission into YST not only depends on how well you play, but on your potential to become a performer. My ex teacher had a student who passed FTCL and tried to apply for YST, but got rejected.
With NAFA joined force with RCM (Royal College of Music, UK), YST is NO MORE definitely the 'ultimate' music degree in Singapore.sleepy:
As for Nafa's Wales BA in music, I am also interested to know how much it is valued as to other local/overseas music degree courses, such as YST. In YST, the degree course is a 4 years, full time programme.
YST is definitely the 'ultimate' music degree in Singapore context. Close to impossible to gain admission. Only a handful of graduates each year for each instrument. Piano has more graduates than other instruments though.
If not admitted to YST, the next viable option is to go overseas for a more recognisable music degree. But super expensive!
YST is stringent towards accepting locals because it has a quota for them. One of its chief aims in setting up - is to instead attract more regional talents from SEA & Asia Pacific. Unless one is really exceptionally outstanding...
My dear NAFA music student - Dreamaurora, I'm glad to meet you here as a parent of 2 girls. http://youtu.be/u9cf07ApIDI
Nice indeed to know that you are making your mark in the music arena here. Wen Bin, Wendy Lim & Minjin were all my former NAFA students & I also know some of you here were also my former NAFA students.
Out of my extremely packed schedule giving lectures, providing private teaching, managing my home together with my music & art school, I happened to bump into this site. But don't worry, I won't frequent here because of time.
One thing however, as you also become fellow musicians & educators, continue to become a positive influence in our music community and a good major contributing force in our local music arena so that it can advance in good leaps and in positive directions...
If you have time, I would like to invite all of you to come support my school's coming Music & Art Festival on 26 & 27 Nov 2011 @Nee Soon South CC. Our this year's theme is - Into the Community...
