DD is 3.5 YO, started Foundations in Aug 11. Didnt know how first sound then and still gets mixed up in her lower case alphabets at times. Her teacher is recommending her to go to LaunchPad in Jan 12.

I tot LaunchPad is more for those in K1? No? I was pleased with her promotion but at the same time worried that she will be stressed in a class of older kids and kill her interest.
Dunno leh. I somehow feel it's anyhow whack one! Maybe see which class got space then put the kids in?? *gut feel*. I hve a 4yo n a 3yo. Sao I def know what is the difference in studs between them.

Actually I tot my 4th should be doing bk 2 or 3 of launchpad (I saw the books so can gauge the level my boy should be at) so u can imagine my ??? :? When they tell me he's in Foundation!

Hi , why don't you have your child asses at another center one more time ?
sometimes young children are panic & stress and thus can't perform well during test .

Err --- i was sitting next to him when he did the assessment - thats why i know he knows his first sounds n last sounds and stuff...

He also can write his name (the teacher gave my boy a paper n pencil to write the name)! So thats why im surprised that he is classified as 'Foundation!'

Anywas - its ok lah - i prob try out for a term? just to satisfy myself that its too easy for him (im weird huh?!). In the meantime - i prob will be on the hunt for another class...

            Hi Vicki,

just curious, what was the accessor’s reason for putting your DS on Foundation since he knows the first and last sounds? Did he say that the child must also know middle sounds to be on Launchpad?

              HI All,

Anyone with their Novena branch, would like to hear feedback on it.
I understand that Kovan will have 2 new teachers next year and teacher Leah timing does not suit my son who is going to K1 next year.
              looking at toher centre feedbacks

              thank you very much

                Hi,

For mummies in Liftoff, how much time do you need to spend time on practising the spelling list? My kids are starting Liftoff next week, and I am worried about the spelling part…

If the kid does not do well for spelling in one week, will he/she be made to repeat it again the following week?

Any tips on making the spelling learning more effective/fun??

                Thanks!

hi Seanwife, I just spend about 2xs a week for my boy's spelling list. If the kid does not do well in the spelling test, it won't be repeated. A young child may feel the pressure of doing well for his/her spelling and all the more the parent needs to be encouraging. There was a few times he didn't do well and I just say it's ok, you can do better another round.

My hubby has this habit of teaching my girl spelling while sending and picking my girl to school verbally and then do the writing when reach home almost daily. Each time she spells correctly, my hubby will tell her \"Very good! Good job!\"!.

You can do the fun part by playing, eg. to spell, \"She\", the kid can do clapping or stomp the feet each time when he recites the letters as if he's marching. This can also help him to remember.

                  Hope this helps!

                    Hi vfong1,

Thanks for sharing…Do the teacher also test on words tested previously? I notice that actually many of the words are actually sight words, so cannot really decipher by phonics rules, rather still need to memorize…and I notice that there are some words like ‘there, their’ which somehow not easy for them to remember…and when I test them too many times, they get turned off….my girls are 4 yrs and 3 months old (K1 in 2012), thus I really scared of putting them off if I try to push them too much on spelling…they are more interested to type out the words on ipad/iphone, but I also worried that when it comes to writing out the words, they will get stuck…

No, the previous spelling list won't be used for future test.

                        Hi hi,

I am planning to put my boy into LC @ TB as he is starting in P1 next year. Currently he is in Kumon for english and i do not see any improvement in his reading as teacher keep getting him to repeat and repeat. As such, decided to pull him out and join LC. Can any parent share with me your experience??
