At the end of the day, PSLE T-scores are just numbers. When you get to secondary school, nobody cares about those 3 digits anymore. Everyone starts from a brand new slate.

exactly!! but coz our S1 streaming is such a BIG deal, everyone thinks otherwise!!!

But then again, the 3-digit numbers also determines whether u will get the scholarship, 3rd lang and dunno what else....

GEP students don't always perform to expectations at PSLE.

Well, coz everyone gave them the 'top 1%'label from day-1, so they r expected to get at least 260ish.

Agreed! Sometimes not getting in might be a happier ending for some.. I m pretty surprised that many of those that got thru r not top students in their school... Like my Ds is one of those surpise case.. Thought of gg to GEP for experience but without any thoughts of getting into it.. It was a struggle to decide to move on.. He is excited abt going for it but yet telling me that sometimes he wished he didn't get in then he don't have to leave his friends.. This is tough for a 9 yr old..

In lower primary, some of the kids who top the school aren't necessarily the brightest. They're very very hardworking. In lower primary you can do very well if you work hard. These are not the ones who'll make it to GEP. Then there are those who are very intelligent but may not work as hard or have not found the secret to exam-smarts, so they don't score as well at exams. And some of these do make it to GEP bec they are high IQ.

I think total scores also played an important part. Kids selected for GEP may not be strong in every subject. If say weak in a particular subject (commonly Chinese), total score would be pulled down & thus not emerge among top few in school.

It's okay. Let the ones whose T-scores were supremely high indulge in their glory for a while. They worked for it and deserved it. But the true test comes in secondary school. Can they maintain their grades with double the number of subjects and projects and CCA commitments?

That's true. But for majority of GEPpers, they should have no problems scoring at least 250 so 3rd lang is not an issue. And if they don't screw up EESIS isn't a problem either.
