Do Year 2 students at SOTA have to choose their subject combinations for Year 3/4, like all other schools? If so what sort of combinations does SOTA offer?

Yes. In y3 either Physics and Chem or Bio and Chem and all other subjects. Eg. Humanities, Maths, Chinese, Literature and their respective art form.

In Y4 a different combi again. New subjects like Econs and Anthropology.

Thanks dasalo. Year 3 subject combi sounds similar to mainstream schools. Anthropology is completely different though. Do they choose to do the 3 higher and 3 lower subjects in Year 3 too? (I'm not sure of the correct terminology.)

Yes, that’s in Y5 when they have to choose 3 HL (higher) and 3 SL (standard) plus 3 compulsory component which is TOK (theory of knowledge), EE (extend essay consists of 4K words) and CAS (community and Action Services)

Hi there. What is the rough amount for books and uniform for the first year? Is the amount of books about the same as other sec schools - as in English, Chinese, Math textbooks and wkbooks etc…

Going to report to SOTA on 22/12 and have no clue as the parents talk had no info abt fees except for mthly school fees.

You asking for the cost? Text and stationaries about 300 plus. Uniform abt $50/set excluding PE Ts and shorts.

Thanks Dasalo for the info. Any idea if there are alot of books to lug back? I figured I might need to bring extra pair of hands if there are coz I wont be driving there.

SOTA students must buy Macbook Pro, is that right? Another $1700+?

I'm not sure about the new requirements but Mac is only required at yr3. Don't buy now as the school has arrangements with Apple store for special discounts and softwares. Pls ask the student affairs dept for more accurate info.

Most of the text books can be found at Popular or find 'hand me down' from frens at mainstream schools. Some of the books are not found elsewhere except from the school esp those pertaining to their art form.

If I did not remember wrongly, books purchase from school are on a order basis and you have a choice to have them delivered to your home at a small price or collect them at a specified date in school. I think you have to pay in advance. Anyhow, regulations may change from time to time so it is best to get realtime info from Student Affairs.
