Well said, jtoh. Just what I told DD yesterday. Everything starts from square one in secondary school. No point asking about what is your T-score as a high T-score does not translate into ability to do well in secondary level. 小时了了大未必佳。

      jtoh:
The girls all start from a fresh slate in secondary school. It doesn't matter if your PSLE score was 260+ or 270+ or 280+. You'll be given the same opportunities so long as you prove yourself. And in case you think that girls who score low 260s don't do as well as those who score 270s in secondary school, that's not true. Secondary school is a different ballgame. Quite often, we find girls who enter at low 260 doing very well in Sec 1, outdoing some who came in at 270s. Similarly we find some who scored 270s performing below par with low GPAs in Sec 1 & 2. So don't worry about opportunities. The more important consideration is which school culture your dd is more comfortable in. RGS and NYGH are both very good schools but with very different school cultures and environments.

Thanks TREX8, is your dd going to NYGH or RGS? I can't recall now. And congrats on her excellent results. 🙂

                Need some advice and guidance…

My DD has 249(HMT+1). She is from St Nicks and is very keen to go into IP which unfortunately is not timely offered by St Nicks. We are considering Cedar IP as 1st choice which has COP 248. St Nicks (COP 249) as 2nd choice. Considering that Cedar has just started the IP and might see higher volume of applicants from the 250 & above range which may result in their COP being pushed higher than 248. Can anyone share how’s her chance like?

We are concerned if she does not get into Cedar IP, her chances at St Nicks would be compromised - affliation no longer applies (due to 2nd choice) and their COP may rise (especially it appears that this year has quite a huge no. of 250 above scorers).

                Many thanks in advance!

Why not try Maris Stella High School, its an all-boys, SAP school located at Bartley Road, near Serangoon.

I've started a new thread on this: http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=28554

So parents, add to the list if you know the t-score of the top scorer from your school and other schools.

                      Verysuperkiasu:
I am also very concerned about sending my son to RI. Heard about stories of how students regretted after going to IP in RI. Very stressed.... I don't want my son to be unhappy in sec sch life. Yet if I don't put RI as 1st choice, then afraid will regret later.

Any advice????? Really can't decide. scared to make the wrong choice. what if he half way in IP can't make it then he is without even O level cert.
                      Hi Verysuperkiasu,
Firstly, congrats to your ds good result. I can understand how you felt and the concerns raised. I hope my litte input here may help you to make a better decision.

Ds had just completed his yr1 in RI. From my observation in the past 11 months, he is really happy and enjoying himself there. You did not elaborate what the unhappiness are so I can't comment on that. Busy definitely, but maybe not as stressful as what we imagined. Ds typical week is quite long, CCA (gymnas) from 3.30pm to 6.45pm on Mon, Wed and Fri. Tue and Thu are mainly reserved for projects' meeting or school acitivities. Classes ended at about 2.30pm on Tue and Thu, can't recall.

Btw, Ds is just an average student in his study. He is just like what you describe, not particularly hard working, need constant reminding, playful but obedient. So I believe your son will do just fine in RI.

IMO, the important thing is what is your son preference or choice. Did you and your son went for the open house to have a feel what is like. For Ds, he is sure on where he wanted to go, so it make thing earlier. Do not be overly concern with the O' level thing. The school does make some arrangement on that if it ever reach that stage. Cheers. 😄
