Hi MBS parents, may I know if the school bookshop is open on Saturday mornings? My boy is going to P1 next year, and we are supposed to go to the school next Wed to do some paperwork as well as to buy the textbooks. Instead of lugging back the heavy books all by myself, I’m thinking of going on a Saturday morning with my husband.

I understand that we can use Popular card to get discounts too. Is this applicable to all the items including exercise books and stationery?
      Thank you.

Hi just to check fr parents who have existing children studying at MBS, do they have any swimming or girl guide as CCA? Btw, is there any CCA that is held on Saturday? Cos I m currently planning the time slots for my child's enrichment next year....

        Hi,

There is swimming for all P2 this year. It is part of their PE class. I've seen boy scout but not too sure about girl guide. Maybe other parents can comment.

So far, my P1 and P2 CCA are on weekdays. So it's ok to plan enrichment on weekends.

          Hi,

I don't think the bookstore is open on Saturday (you can ask them when you are there next Wed). Popular just took over as vendor in June this year. Suggest you either buy next wed (for the school exercise books and buddhism text) and from Popular stores (for the rest text books) outside. 2 year back when I went for the registration in Oct, I bought the books on the day itself (very kiasu). I also bought the uniforms on the same day. Details of the uniform vendor are being discussed in the earlier pages.

Else once the P2 to P6 parents start buying their books end Novemeber, the queues will be long. I remember queueing for an hour to get my kids books at the last minute in December and some books were sold out. Even the PE tees are out of stock every year (but this year new uniform vendor so maybe this will not happen). This year I will try to buy at the earliest date given by the school.

          Welcome to MBS.

            Hi Jsmum,

Do you happen to have P3 booklists???

I am actually interested in getting the exercise books, file and buddhist textbook before school closes (kiasu me). So we don’t have to go back to buy the books during school hols and especially join the queue.

I also intend to buy textbooks from popular elsewhere. Last year, when I was in school to buy the exercise books and buddhist books, I realised that some of the books were out of stock. At that moment, I felt it was wise of me to have bought the books from popular.

              Hi MMM,

The book list will be given out to the kids after their exams. Last year I remember there were designated dates to buy P2 and P3 books. Try to get the books at the earliest date as possible (usually this will fall on a weekday). Never buy the books on the saturday. The queue was so long!!

For P3 there will be English text and workbooks now. Also several Science text and an optional Longman dictionary. Hopefully there is no new edition to any of the textbooks so my boy can continue to use the text pass down from my gal.

You mean you want take a look at my gal P3 booklist given out last year? I need go home check.

                Hi Jsmum,

I went to the MBS website to look for booklist. But can't find any. They have it previously.

What do you think? My impression is that they only need to buy the buddhist books, exercise books and files from school. Is that your impression as well??? I actually have some diners club voucher for popular. eg. buy 30 nett and get $8 discount but expire by end of this month. Was thinking if I can buy some stuff probably for my P1 first. Or I will just get some assessment books.

I just realised that next week is \"holiday\" for the kids due to PSLE marking. I am planning to work from home so that I can keep an eye on them for SA2. Currently we are focus on doing those top school papers, focus on their weak areas (eg. compre for my girl) and then I am trying to study how to prepare my P2 for her english paper...... That is a challenge.

After that, it's up to them. I decided not to place too much stress and hope otherwise we will feel bitter about it :x

                  Hello MMM,

I would suggest that you get the \"Besta\" chinese dictionary (most basic model) at $39.90 at Popular if you got some vouchers expiring end this month. The kids in P3 are allowed to use this dictionary when they do their chinese compo.

This time I must get the books on the earliest designated date or once the booklist is out. Wonder if Popular bring in their text as early as mid Nov (since last day of school on 18/11)? Else I just buy all from the school bookshop.

Exams is less than 2 weeks away. Next week is more like \"holiday\" to my kids since I am working. It is good you are at home.

                      Hi Jsmum,

Is this model good and can last them till P6? I've heard friends talking about some electronic chinese dictionary but my impression is that it is more than $39.90. In fact, I thot they paid alot more that why they are making noise about it. :?

They just started on 1-1 tuition for chinese yesterday. My son's existing enrichment class teacher who \"volunteered\" to teach them after I told her the issues I've for compo and compre. So i hope she is able to do some \"last minute\" works on my P2 girl's compre and compo. I find these 2 very challenging and I hope that with this teacher around, she can help to guide my girl in that and build a foundation before it gets too difficult.

I don't know about P6. Perhaps your friend bought the ones >$100. The model I mentioned above is definately in the thirties. My girl told me her friends were using this model too. Last year during one of the book fairs in MBS, this dictionary was being sold. I was in Popular some time back and saw a mother buying it for her daughter and I was hesitating to buy it for my boy since it comes in blue colour too. It was less than $40.

If my gal can master well using this model, I will buy her the advance model in P6 (if can use).

I am also worried about my P2 boy chinese compo. The kids are required to write 8 sentences for SA2 on 26/10 right? That will be like slightly more than half a page. Is it enough? Looks too short but my boy argue it is enough. *Faint*
