The writer made a public apology after receiving all the comments.

Point to note: Do ALL students/parents/customers clear their trays at fast food restaurant?

Yes my kids and I do clear our trays at ff rests. We don’t do so at food courts as we don’t want to deprive the elderly of a job. But we make it a point to thank them.

My VS DH always make it a point to clear tray at fast food restaurant after eating. This comes out from him automatically and a good teaching by demonstration to our boys. 😄

There is no need for registration and school uniform.

                    Make yourself feel comfortable!

Hi, i was from VS and may be able to clear any doubts you may have. Points of discussion:

                      1. Character - Yes, we do call teachers ‘sir’ and ‘ma’am’. Nowadays, students call teachers ‘cher’, ‘mr xxx’ or even by their first names, but we were taught by our seniors from the start to address teachers as ‘sir’ or ‘ma’am’. Perhaps it’s the strong uniformed group presence in the school, or maybe, it’s just the heritage from British colonialism.

                      2. The tray-leaving incident - i believe such incidents will happen in any school. It was a case of spiced-up citizen journalism which targeted an elite school. Not to be immodest, but when you’re up there, there’s a lot more scrutiny involved. True, the boys were irresponsible, but statistically speaking, these boys are not representative of the school at large.

                        Hi,
DS3 just got his results today and is applying for VS. His teacher recommends VS as he believes DS3 will shine there. Pls ans some of my queries so that I can be mentally prepared. :please:
                        1. DS3 is a Maths and Science kid. How will he do in VS? He has been given an option to do HCL but DS3 is not interested as Chinese is his weakest subject. I encouraged him to try and give up later. What is your opinion? On top of that, he can opt for a third language and I encourage him to do it for fun meaning he can drop it later if he can't cope.
                        2. DS3 is not very hardworking in the sense that he is an independent learner but tends to be complacent in his studies. If he falls below his so called minimum grade, he'll pull up his socks and if he does well, he'll relax. How will VS ensures that he constantly do his best? The reason I'm asking this is DS3 is very relax throughout his primary school days and only put in some effort to prepare for PSLE. He would have done much better if he has really put in effort :x He has no tuition and although I'm a tutor myself, he doesn't want my help as he prefers to learn on his own. He seems to get by on his 'intelligence' than hard work and I'm worried that this will not work in secondary school.
                        3. How is the school fees and award system like in VS? DS3 thrives on awards. 😉 Though DS3 is not top in his school, (he is among the top ten) he gets lots of opportunities to represent his school in competitive and non-competitive areas. Somehow his teachers love to choose him over his classmates. 😄 This really boost his morale in school.
                        4. DS3 is not a sports person and I wonder which CCA is suitable for him. Can you recommend one? He would like to be in a Maths or IT club. Is there any in VS? DS3 was in the science club before he was pulled out to join the Maths club and represent his school in competitions. DS3 is very talented in Maths.
                        5. Can you provide any information so that I can prepare DS3?
                        Thanks in advance.
                        :hugs:
