Hi anyone knows how reliable is the information given by Edupoll :-

Edupoll’s Top 5 Girl Schools in Singapore ( by prestige ) are:

1.Raffles Girls’ Secondary School ( PSLE cut-off: 265)
2.Nanyang Girls’ High School ( PSLE cut-off: 262)
3.Singapore Chinese Girls’ School ( PSLE cut-off: 254 )
4.Methodist Girls’ School ( PSLE cut-off : 253 )
5.CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’ School ( PSLE cut-off: 250 )

My fren's dd is freaking out upon reading the above as her T-score is 256 & her dream school is RGS. Anyone has any input? 🤷

256 for RGS looks too difficult leh...

My dd got 263, is it a good chance getting into RGS? Last year the COP was 261. Do you think the COP will go up by more than two points this year?
Nobody can tell, really depends on the demand. If I were you, I'd just put RGS as the first choice. I think there's a high chance, but like always, things are never guaranteed. There were years when the cutoff was below 260 when many just avoided thinking COP would be high.

DD wanted to take Japanese as third language. Can she withdraw from the language class if she cannot cope with it after sec 1 or sec 2?

My DS scored 252. He hopes to get into ACSi’s IB program. We already selected through the internet. The moment the school code was entered, "ACS I - O level Program" was the return with ACSI in the list of schools selected . I am wondering if that means that the system has allowed him to apply for the O level track only. Can anyone that has a higher score (say 255 and above) share if you have a return of " ACS I - IB Program" if you have selected ACSi as one of your 6 choices? Thanks.
We are appealing becos of ds's WL fr DSA and he is in GEP. Since we have gone so in the dsa journey just want to complete the last possible step. We are thinking of doing so for NUSH and NJC too. Jusst want to have closure for the near 5 months of DSA process.

ngbrdad,

My DS was on RI WL via DSA. Fortunately it got converted to CO. So I can perfectly understand the agonizing process and wait you are going through. I would do the same if I were you.

Thanks. In the end it was like a wight hanging in your mind.
When we saw DS's result slip we quickly opened the S1 posting letter but could not find anything. After looking thru a few times then saw the words you are not successful in your DSA application. Then for a moment the mind just went blank.

Must go thru the whole process again in 2013 for DS2..............
Your DS2 also in GEP?

Found the school fees structure for RI and HCI for 2012:

RI: $300 + $35 for supplementary fee
http://www.ri.edu.sg/main/schoolinfo/forstudents/admissionfee/schoolfees
HCI: $360
http://www.hwachong.edu.sg/ContentPage.asp?SID=16

From the table, it says that fee for citizen at HCI remains as $200 and they only revise the fee for PR. At RI, fee for PR is $400 leh.

:salute: my mistake, didn't see the title. I wanted to share the school fees for Singaporeans.

If you were not in GEP, then secondary cannot take GE? Or can apply?

RI has SBGE ie school based GE. The school's pedagogy is same as GEP. Within the school, there are about 7 GEP classes. With your high score, you may be allocated one of these classes ie study with GEPpers.

My DS is GEP going to RI. Will he be in GEP class?

Your DS2 also in GEP?
No DS2 is in twinning programmme.
So we will not apply to the DSA that more or less only take in GEP.
Should be a simpler exercise compared to DS1.

Your son will definitely be in one of the GE class in RI next year.
Why can't RI open up more classes and accept all GEPpers instead ? I know there are some with GEPpers with low T score, but that is not what they are look at in the first place rite ? Otherwise, no need to identify GEP rite ?
Boys generally mature later and these kids might be doing very well later on as they mature.

Why only GEPpers who should have this priority - just becos they are identified at P3 level? In this case, all parents should go drill their kids for GEP (afterall no need to worry about T-score or sec sch thereafter). Your same arguement of later maturity can be applied to mainstreamers as well.....so RI has to open more classes to cater to whole of Singapore kids??

And why must it only be RI? Singapore has so many schools, and RI is not the only school who can groom your kid!

Come on, 别钻牛角尖. There are lots of good schools out there. Have you consider that your GEP kid may probably fare better in a different environment as compared with the competition he will face in RI???

I'm quoting RI from the previous post that was discussing on RI. There are definitely many good schools out there.
What is the reason when there are only 500+ GEPpers and thousands of mainstreamers RI cater so many classes for GEP ?
hmmmmmmm...
Let's do this
Perhaps let us try & see if we can understand why every year RI ends up with so many S1 classes of GEP kids
- Let's say RI takes in 250 out of the total 350 GEP boys in Singapore every year. Of which maybe 150-180 of these are fr DSA process and the remainder 70-100 are fr the S1 posting process. ( the numbers I quote here may not be 100% accurate, it's just for discussion sake )

Points to Note ( some are facts, some are my own assumptions):
1. RI is an independent School & therefore it's Principal is hired directly by its own Board of Governors & not just assigned to it by MOE.
2. The Principal of RI reports directly to the Board & probably wld want to perform well in the eyes of the Board
3. One of the very important key Performance indicator expected of the Principal by the Board wld very probably be the GCE A Levels Results
4. RI (being an independent school ) probably has a lot of discretion & independence ( i.e. not fully controlled by MOE on this ) on determining the admission policies to RI, including how many students to take in during DSA, how many students from the different domains ( eg. CCAs, GEP, Academic etc ) to allocate for the DSA process.
5. The detailed admission policies ( or shld I say strategies ) of RI wld probably be largely determined by its Principal & not the board ( board wld probably not go into such operational detailed aspects of running the school )
6. The Principal wld therefore be very very concerned about how the RI's Sec One admission selection policies ( or rather strategies ) would impact on the school's GCE A level performance 6 yrs down the road

With the above in mind, why then does RI end up with about 200-250 GEP boys every year? Is it because
(1) the Principal was from GEP
(2) MOE forced them to do so
(3) RI wants to boast that they managed to attract the majority of GEP kids to the school year after year
(4) RI just enjoy pissing off the parents on Kiasuparents who complain about RI having so many GEP boys
(5) \" ......... (fill in your own reason)\"
