My dd got 263+2. She got A for chinese and 3A* for the other subjects. She wants to go RGS with her friends but I prefer NYGH as it is nearer. Her score will be in the average range in NYGH but below average in RGS. I am worried that even if she can get into RGS, she will be given low priority treatment in RGS.
My preference: NYGH, RGS, NJC
Her preference: RGS, NYGH, NJC
Any comments on this please? :please:

:congrats: to you and DD. Her score will be around slightly above average in NYGH. NYGH is same category as MGS, SCGS ie it accepts affiliated girls who meet min score, in its case 250. So the lowest scorer in NYGH could be around 247+3 and thus your DD 263+2 is considered pretty good PSLE score there. Given its affiliation commitments, allocated places for S1 posting are limited thus explaining its seemingly high S1 public COP.
On the other hand, RGS has no affiliation at all.

So, its last scorer is 260 (2010) and no bonus given for HMT. So yes, in fact your DD is considered below average PSLE score in RGS. However PSLE scores have no direct correlation to Sec school performance. Secondary school is a different story, it's a fresh new page. Both schools are great with own merits and you can visit other relevant threads in this forum to find out their differences. It's a personal choice. Don't forget that she has to be happy with a secondary school she's studying for next few years and types of friends there. If you live near NYGH, RGS can't be that far for you  😉

No, it's not true that juz becos NYGH is affiliated to NYPS,
that explains why its S1 COP is high......even higher than RGS.
all these yrs, NYGH is already affiliated to NYPS,
but only in recent yrs, NYGH COP is higher than RGS.
in fact, it's the highest among all sec schs COP,
and also their affiliated COP for NYPS has increased.

Hi anyone knows how reliable is the information given by Edupoll :-
Edupoll’s Top 5 Girl Schools in Singapore ( by prestige ) are:
1.Raffles Girls’ Secondary School ( PSLE cut-off: 265)
2.Nanyang Girls’ High School ( PSLE cut-off: 262)
3.Singapore Chinese Girls’ School ( PSLE cut-off: 254 )
4.Methodist Girls’ School ( PSLE cut-off : 253 )
5.CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’ School ( PSLE cut-off: 250 )
My fren's dd is freaking out upon reading the above as her T-score is 256 & her dream school is RGS. Anyone has any input? 🤷

Cestmoi - please ask your friend to take this list with a huge pinch of salt 😉
Numbers 2-5 are all affiliated girls schools so a big chunk of their vacancies are taken up by affiliated girls.

so for No. 2 in the list above, u cant really take it with a huge pinch of salt..... 😉 😉
that are reasons why NYGH COP is high.....

This is freaky scary... COP for RGS 265..... May I know the intake for S1 n # of accepted DSA? Would like to know # of vacancies left for S1 posting n to gauge the chance of getting in as my DD scored 265.... Now does it seem she is on borderline to be accepted by RGS ? Any input? Worried.....

COP for RGS is NOT 265 lah....it's 260 as for last yr.
DSA vacancies usually taken up to 50 % of the whole cohort, cohort is ard 450 ??

DD wanted to take Japanese as third language. Can she withdraw from the language class if she cannot cope with it after sec 1 or sec 2?

Anyone can advice on the third language option?

My dd got 259+2 for her psle. She was unsuccessful for RGS/NYGH DSA previously (only managed to get through RGS GAT). We plan to put :

1st : RGS
2nd : NYGH
3rd : NJC
4th : RV
..

We know that most likely she will be posted to NJC/RV. However, her dream school is RGS/NYGH. Thus, we decided to use 1st 2 choices to try. Pls advise :

1) Is there anyway I can appeal to RGS or NYGH now and what is the appeal procedure? I called RGS but they told me to go through S1 posting.
2) I heard that if we appeal only after S1 posting is out and in the event that the appeal is unsuccessful, she will lose the school which MOE has posted her initially. Is it true?

Hi Ms_lim
Am not sure about appeal process at RGS/NYGH because different schools may differ, so better to check with schools directly.

My understanding with Appeal is, you still have to report to the school you are posted to on 22 December even if you are appealing to other schools.
You need to report to the posted school to 'chope' the place. If you do not report on 22 Dec, the computer will strike off your name thinking that you do not require the place.
So report to posted school on 22 Dec first, while waiting for appeal results from other schools . Treat them as separate matter. Appeal results take awhile, depending on vacancies of each school. May be as late as end Dec or first week Jan.

Thanks Bbee for your advise.

Yes you can withdraw if unable to cope. There is withdrawal form you fill up and hand in at certain period.

:thankyou: Hope your son gets into SST ! U can ask me for more information on SST.

Let me share with you some information .
1)There will be an orientation camp taking place on the 5th of January and it is an overnight camp in school . Parents have to report to SST on 6th of January at 6pm till 9.30pm for the badge ceremony.

2)The learning device will cost around $2,000-$2,600. We also need to get the uniform and the books which cost about $250-$300 in total.

3)There are already assignments assigned to us on the SST blog for students of 2012. Not as easy (have to use our critical thinking skills).

4)We drove past the new campus and it's really cool and big. There is a sports complex , a football field in the middle of the campus and three more blocks on the other side. It's almost done and I saw some workers working on the flooring.

5)The footwear for SST students can be any footwear as long as it's a sports/track shoe worn with socks. There are different colours of the PE t-shirt which represent the house colour . Currently , we are not informed of our house colour yet until they have arranged the class list.

Hope you found the information above useful. You can ask me for more information regarding SST and I will try my best to answer you if I can.
Hi Kid - Many thanks for the great information. We are trying to not get our hopes too high - so should he get in would definitely get in touch with you with more queries.

In the meantime - you had mentioned earlier there was some talk about a JC being built for SST etc - any further mention of that was made during the briefing at the registration?

Thanks
No , there isn't as that was insider's information by one of the teachers in SST. But the JC isn't confirmed yet. What I heard was that after the 'O' levels , they will select 100 pupils from the cohort and the other hundred will go to polytechnics. That's all that I heard from the teacher.

Hi Augmum- glad to see you here 😄 NYGH takes in many NYPS girls min affiliated COP 250. So they only have limited seats for S1 public posting exercise, explaining its high S1 public COP. NYGH gained popularity after its IP status (ard after 2007), thru train to HCI (JC). I am coming from angle of quality of cohort. No doubt NYGH's S1 COP is highest. But what is its average COP including Affiliated girls? in fact your DD's DHS has higher quality cos non affiliation plus COP 257/8. The lowest scorer in DHS could well be average in NYGH. When I was a new p6 parent, I had misconception that high S1 COP means very good quality cohort. Only when my frens' DDs enter these schools then we start to learn to look at big picture ie also look at Affiliated COP to see the overall quality. I am merely passing on my experience to the new p6 KSPs not to only look for S1 COP for such schools with affiliation. Ok lah, to make you happy, number 2 take with a small pinch of salt ok   I know your DD from DHS. You yourself from NYGH, is it haha 😆 Of course barring cohort quality, there are other reasons why NYGH COP is high  I personally mention in elsewhere in other threads that it is a gem of its own and I respect Mdm Heng a lot :please:

I think the Cop wouldn't be that high since this years top scorer and last years were quite close. If I am not wrong rgs cop last year was around 260 and I know of people getting in with 258.

Just curious. How did the girls with 258 get into RGS? Did they already got CO through DSA or they appealed after S1 posting?
They appealed after the posting was unsuccessful.

What is twinning programmme?
Twinning is a programme his school NHPS set up for a class to take social studies, HCL, project works etc together with the GEP kids based on MOE's ranking during the GEP 2nd round.
