Thanks for your help, Choco05. Just wondering how is the GPA system like in RGS and how often and what is the format of the common tests and EOY exams?

Hi, just wondering what about the GPA you would like to know? How it is calculated or...?

Haha for the graded assessments we use like a bunch of acronyms. AA, FA, PPA, GA are just some of them šŸ˜“ šŸ˜“ PPA stands for Pen&Paper assessment, so PPA is basically exam papers and writing writing writing.

The others can take any form! It can be an essay, a story, a poster, a report, a comic strip, anything. I've even heard of postcards.

EOY exams are all PPAs. The biggest difference from the questions compared to pri sch are that they are in essay forms and can take up to 7 or 8 marks. Especially Lit, Geog and History. You have to chiong and write!

Yes, I would like to know how it is calculated. and how often are the tests?
Here goes... the average GPA is calculated by adding all the GPA of the core subjects then dividing it by the no. of subjects. System is as follows... Max average GPA will be 4.0.

80 & above---4.0
70-79---3.6
65-69---3.2
60-64---2.8
55-59---2.4
50-54---2.0
45-49---1.6
40-44---1.2
Below 40---0.8

We took 7 core subjects this year. 3rd Lang or special programs like CSP are also considered as a core subject, but the result will only be included at end-of-year. 3rd Lang GPA can be used to substitute the GPA of a subject in school(not languages, maths or science. So basically the humanities.)

I forgot to mention this to everyone. For 2012, RGS will be using the 1:1 thingy using Macs and other Apple products, so i don't know if they will change the syllabus or anything like that. I'm sharing based on the 2011 one.

The exams start appearing more and more as you go to Term 2. The projects are usually spread throughout the year, especially Term 2 & 3.

Just a few questions...

1. What is the school timetable like? (e.g. reporting time, recess and lunch time and end of school)
2. Is there school bus service?
3. Which day is third language on and what time is it?
4. If you take higher chinese, do you have to stay back for extra lessons?

Hello i am an RGS Girl Sec 1 this year:) We have recently been informed about the change in timetable next year, if i remember correctly it ends at around 1pm for Wed and Thurs, while the rest of the days it ends at around 2pm. Because of the dismissal time there is no lunch period, and recess time is different each day.

For reporting time it would be the usual 7.25am, that's when the national anthem starts so it's best to be there at 7.20am. On Thursdays, there is an allocated CES time slot for consultation from teachers. Teachers may choose to conduct enrichment lessons during this time but most of the time there isn't. When there isn't, then reporting time is 8.25am:)

There is a school bus service:) I take it too.

3rd Lang Day has been allocated to Friday for next year[unlike this year which does not have a specific day for these programs], including all other special programs like Malay/Chinese Special programs, etc.

No, there isn't any extra lessons for Higher Chinese, we take it during curriculum time. In fact, there are hardly any Supplementary Classes after school, unless it's a special program/enrichment given by teachers. The rest of the time you stay back is because of CCA and things like that:)

Regarding the Apple products used in 2012, i can't help much because our batch is sadly missing all the technological stuff in learning so i don't really know what it would be like XP

I hope i helped:) Anymore questions please feel free to ask šŸ˜‰

:lovesite:

Hi Choco05,
:thankyou: for sharing. You've been a great help. šŸ˜‚

:hi5: DD is also interested in French & Japanese but know nothing of either languages. šŸ˜‰
She was more interested in French but her seniors have told her French is tough so now she's swaying towards Japanese. šŸ˜‰
