        Hi Mummies,

Can I check if a child starts at K1 for Chinese enrichment in K1, will it be too late?

I have a pair of twins, currently in Pre-nursery, turning 3 in Nov 09. By Jan 10, they will be in Nursery, I am uncertain if I should send them for Chinese Enrichment classes at Berries as I am worried that they will not be able to cope as they are just 3 year 2 months..

        Anyone can share?
I had the same concern as you as my DS is also born on Oct 2006. Starting in K1 chinese enrichment might be a little late but that depends on individual child. I do understand that Tien Hsia & Berries do have trial lesson.

You may want to go for a trial & then decide whether to enrol them into the course.

          Hi titank,

Thanks for your information. I m glad I m not the only one who has the same thoughts! It really depends on individual child. I have also seen Nov 06 babies are coping very well too.

I have another daughter in Feb 05, she is really coping well. Now I really understand why people used to say if you have a year end baby, you will lose out for about a year. šŸ˜ž

I will try to send them for trial classes & see if they like it .

Do you send your DS to Chinese enrichment classes as well?

            Hi i3mum,

Currently still looking around chinese enrichment for both my DS (P1) & DD (Nursery) for next year.

Usually year end born children do have disadvantage but guess my DD cope well in the current school. Which chinese enrichment centre are you looking at?

              Hi titank,

It's good to hear that your DD is doing well. One of my twins has problem sitting still & pay attention in class. I am so worried for her. The other one is better.

I am looking into Berries, since there are so much good feedback. But I have yet to go there for a look. And I am also trying to fix a date for the 3 of them to attend the same timing, but unfortunately, there isn't one on the ideal branch I wanted. Maybe I will try the Orchard branch as there are more classes.

In fact, the kids enrichment classes are costly, somemore I have 3 to go at 1 time.

Does your kids attend other enrichment classes as well? I started my eldest when she was about 4, which I think she is sensible enough to pay attention and she really loves to attend class. As for my twins, I thought of sending only when they turn 4, but I guess it will be too late, they will only be 4 next year Nov, & going to K1 the following year.

                i3mum,

i started my sensible ds1 on berries when he was in K1. he was able to catch up then.
for my playful ds2 turning 3 in nov, i am hesitant to enrol him in berries cos i am worried that the money will go to waste... his attention span is very short  and is very very playful. just today, he was reprimanded by his PreN teacher for not waiting his turn (dismissal time and he saw me and stepped out of the queue without the teacher's permission); can see him pouting and folding his arms as he waited for his turn... :scared:

                  Hi jedamum,

Is your ds1 an year end child too?

I agree that money may go to waste if their attention span is short. My no.2 child is like your ds2. But at the other point, I m worried they has already \"lose out\" as they are younger & might not catch up. Which school is your ds2 in?

                    Hi i3mum,

Yes my kid still attend other enrichment class. Yes, Berries is quite expensive where on average cost $17.12/hour. On average for Nursery 2 chinese enrichment program they cost about $17-$19 per hour.

You may want to consider other language schools, these are my few choices where I'm doing evaluation:

                    (1) Yuquan Lang School
                    (2) Han Lang School
                    (3) Xueni Lang School
                    (4) Eduplus Lang School
                    (5) Tien Hsia Lang School

You may consider to get yr both child to start perhaps in mid year of 2010 if you afraid your kid may have short attention & then your investment seem wasted. Yes, 3 at one go on chinese enrichment indeed hit hard on the wallet.

                    😢

                      Hi i3mum,

We happened to have all the year end babies. End oct, beginning Nov and beginning Dec.

For my nursery going this year who was born in beginning Nov and she was mildly premature, she actually started her nursery program with Molin at the beginning of this year. She is coping well and enjoys her lessons. Prior to that, she has already been attending pre-nursery program for a year. I think that helps her to adjust to enrichment classes. She also does ballet and music courses.

Though she is the type who likes to look around to \"survey the environment\" but teacher commented that her attn span is improving.

You probably need to evaluate your child. Personally I feel that there is no harm starting at nursery. Eg. my nursery will ask my mum everyday if she has lessons that day and she looks forward to going for the lessons.

                        Hi titank,

After reading so much reviews & comments, I think Berries is still the \"popular\" one & many parents choose Berries. I am worried that I will have to stop & change them to another enrichment centre in the furture if I realised the one which I sign up is not competent as Berries.

My 3 kids enrichment classes are going to \"burn a big hole\" in my pocket. But I guess when they goes to Primary school, I will not sign them up for too many classes as they will be very busy in school. As for now, it is to build up their foundation & basic. My hubby says I am an \"Enrichment-Mum Class\" addict. I also think so šŸ‘… If I don't send them, it seems like I am depriving them of their potential & I really feel bad.
