Any figure on the numbers that make it to NUS medicine/dentistry/law ?

NUSH seems to have a bumper crop that got into NUS medicine last year.

Btw looking at the requirement on NUS medicine, seems like they require an IB diploma plus SAT too.

Any comment on this ?

It's possible to take an IB combination which does not allow entry to medicine/dentistry, while it's nearly impossible to take an NUSH diploma which does not — because the NUSH diploma is a science-based diploma.

As for the SAT I/II requirement for medicine/dentistry from May 2012 onwards, it is supposedly in lieu of the GP/KI requirement that must be met by A-level candidates. There is no direct equivalent in the IB Diploma.

Btw heard that last year’s batch of IB from ACSI, 25 made it to NUS medicine.

If it’s true looks like one doesn’t need a perfect score of 45 to qualify to NUS medicine.

ngbrdad, you need about 42 points to get into Oxford or Cambridge, so it's unlikely you need 45 to qualify for NUS Medicine — 45 is 768 UCAS tariff points or approximately 5-6 H2 A grades (because the SG-Cambridge GCE A is still one of the toughest in the world).


The situation is like this: NUS has a quota, which means that you can't think statistically; you have to consider the interview panel, the overwhelming number of candidates doing A-levels vs the unusual nature of the IB, etc.

But for A level students you have no chance at all if you don't get straight As for NUS medicine/dentistry/law right ?

ngbrdad: It varies from year to year; I recall one year when they wanted lots of top students in the biomedical sciences but not Medicine — then many straight-A students DIDN’T get Medicine. There was another year when it was Law that was getting the straight-A candidates. What you need is 3 H2 As (minimum), I suspect. So if you have AAA and the rest not-so-A, you would still stand a chance.

Hi if my son goes to ACSI and he wants to take up Malay as 3rd language, it will be MSP and lessons are held in the school right ?

Is is tougher or easier compared to other 3rd languages ?
At least no need to travel for 3rd language.

What about RSP ?
Do students have to sign up for msp on the S1 form first before they can consider rsp ?
Or just leave the s1 form blank ?
