Ya it is compulsory Loy from wat I understand. That is y I say die Liao loh and some more dunno the timing yet and how long is the lessons. I am really having a big headache of wat to do and some more I heard timing and date will inform us only when school opens. I also dunno how now
I thought I heard the principal said that they are strongly encouraged to join. So should it be considered as compulsory? Cheers
Tweety
Ya, that's what I heard too. I don't recall principal mentioning compulsory for this speech and drama. Must call the school to clarify. My girl's Sat is also fully scheduled. Sun also has tuition classes and hence unable to shift her Sat enrichment classes to Sun. Really headache :slapshead: -
If the S&D moved to Sat from weekday (as in this yr) in 2012, it can't be compulsory (just like any weekend classes by alumni). This yr already not compulsory when it was conducted during school time/curriculum, so how can it be when it is moved to weekend? In the Activity booklet, it is also stated as \"strongly encouraged\" only, not compulsory.

hi timtim,
Since it is not compulsory this year, hopefully it is not compulsory next year. reason why we thought compulsory cos the principal says that he will let the parents know the schedule and the timing next year when school reopens and the the group of students will be split between basketball and speech and drama. Meaning one group will start with basketball and the other group speech and drama and after certain number of lessons, switch.
I hope there is no change as in follow this year not compulsory. My frens even try not scheule any lessons on sat now and free up the sat for this supposed "compulsory" enrichment.
By the way, wat is the minimum amount for a normal noddle or something in school tuckshop. I went during orientation but all stalls except the drink stall are not opened.i only teach my girl how to buy drinks from vending machine only -
Hi Parents,
From P1 orientation, I have this Weekend Activities 2012 booklet, I wish to register Math for my DS (Sat, 11:30am-13:00pm), but understand the school have S&D/Basketball on Sat morning, no matter compulsory or not, if I want to take the S&D, means I can’t go for Math? What’s the point then to have this booklet? Any parents have the same problem? Thanks! -

I think it's hard for NCPS to implement it in a compulsory manner. They should have expected this kind of reaction/response when they shifted S&D to Sat in view that weekend time is precious, be it for academic, enrichment or family time. NCPS has no case to make it compulsory, if so, they better put it back to weekday and conduct it during school time. But I believe they are also short of curriculum time next yr, hence the change to Sat.hi timtim,

My son usually buys the few things, like noodles (80c), chicken rice ($1), crackers (70c), packet drinks (50c), bottled drinks/milk ($1) etc. Think western food more expensive, but should be between $1 - $1.50. I only give my son $1.50, enough for him to eat and have a drink occasionally. I restricted him to 2 non-coloured drinks and 1 snack (e.g. crackers) a week. I also forbid him buying anything from the bookshop as I have lots of stationery at home. -
re: basketball and S&D
like that dun know compulsory very disruptive, i would have tot the school would be able to give us a clear answer during orientation or at least in the slides then we can view and make plans.
re: recess
i would probably pack something for DS, until he more confident. worry that recess will have lots of kids buying food then he may not have enough time to eat, or he scared -
dombry:
For recess, the P1 will be \"guided\" by P2 kids. If he doesn't try, he'll never learn. Monkey see monkey do, he sees and follows friends, he will learn to be independent very soon. Kids their age learns super fast, so also must watch out they learn the bad things/stuff. So I suggest you just let him go and try from Day 4 (day 1 to 3 issued packed food by school and eat in class). In any case, recess is not a meal, it's just tea and mingle/play time for them. if he takes lunch, then should be ok even to skip recess. My son seldom eats, always thinking of buying drinks or snacks, and go library with friends most times. Cheers!
