Secondary School Selection

With a t score of 201 and applying temasek sec as first choice am I risking it.. Cop for temasek 230
very risky to put down Temasek as 1st choice as the points difference is too great.
What about Bedok South or Bedok View? I have a friend whose son is in Bedok South and she has mentioned positive remarks about the sch before. I've good impression about the students - seen some of them around whilst in their sch uniform and they seem quite well behaved. -
Kiasu Parents:
Any good secondary in Bedok area?
are u referring to boys? girls? or co-ed schs? -

Sometimes it’s very hard to say if a school is good or not so good. Also, a lot of things can be hearsay.
For a more objective view and as a guide, what parents can do is to refer to the "Choosing Sec Schs" book, and do the following:
1. Review pages G4 - G10 => this will help give u an idea on the school’s banding and if it is a value-added sch. (This is a very useful step as it gives u an idea if the school is doing well or not. If the sch is not listed, than it is ranked outside Band 9)
By value-added, it suggests if the sch has made improvements over the years.
2. Go thru the respective page of the schs u are interested in and check out the subjects and CCAs offered. Your child might be interested in the CCA that is offered in a particular sch
3. Go to the shortlisted schools’ websites to get an idea what the schs are doing or offering to the students.
Also, want to add that sometimes, a sch that is in Band 8 or 9, does not mean that it is a "weak" school. It could mean that the sch’s focus is holistic - developing a more all-rounded child than just focusing on academics alone.
There are schs where they nurture students who are hearing-impaired and other weaker students. Whilst the sch does place emphasis on the academics, it helps develop the students holistically as well.
So, sometimes, we need to look beyond the banding. -

rgds[/quote]Looks like a good selection. I'm not sure of Edgefield Sec but I know Edgefield Pri is a good sch. So hopefully, their students also move on to the same name secondary sch
Good luck :xedfingers: -
Dear schweppes
Thank you…Edgefield is a brand new school. This is their 2nd intake…I believe if there arent many students but just sec 1 and 2, the teachers will have more time to focus on these students. -

Tat's true. The P will be more \"on\" and the teachers more motivated to motivate the students.Dear schweppes
