My DS learns piano at home. When he went for the orientation, there was a group of students performing. He was kept looking and tell him that he wants to learn violin. Long before learning piano, he wanted to do violin but I thought piano will be easier to pick up than violin. Good that PEPS has violin. Now, I don't have to spend additional $$ on violin classes outside.

That will be a plus point for him to pick up violin and it will be easier for him to learn a second instrument. ya, you should let the teacher know that he has piano background and they will be happy to have him. Let me know the outcome. I think I will also let my DS join the string ensemble when we are back in 2012.

Learning the violin needs quite a bit of patience as it will be quite tiring in the initial stage to hold the violin. If your DS is so interested, that will overcome the hardwork:)

I guess you need to make a trip to the school office and put your name on waitlist. If I am not wrong, the school will contact you and will also ask for your child result slip (if there is any, some schools do that). You will also need to make frequent calls to ask them about the progress. Hope that helps.:)

Keep you posted on the violin. When you are back, the kids can go for the CCA together. It will be fun for them. I just got the books and school uniforms. Next, will need to source for shoes and wallet. Wonder how will he be on the first day of school.

Btw, I have also signed up for the PV. Will see if I can participate. Tot it will be good so that I can know the school further.

I recommend the movie \"Music from the Heart\" for your kid if he's interested in violin. Very inspirational. The violin portions are excellent although he may not understand the non-violin parts of the story. Can watch on youtube.
