Just checked email and there are 2. The second email attached booklist and uniform price list.
Saw that book list only has books for 2 subjects :
- MT/HMT and
- Biology
Not sure if there is another list to be given later or the rest based on only \"lecture notes\". Even during my uni days with lecture notes, there were also reference text books. Looks like the teaching \"method/concept\" will be very different; I hope DS can adapt to it. :scratchhead:

DS just finished his Year 1 at NUSH. Last year, when I received the book list, like you, I was surprised to see only 2 books in the book list. But no worries, the notes prepared by the teachers for each subject are pretty clear and comprehensive (unlike our uni days! ). For comfort feeling, if you want your DS/DD to do some pre-reading or occupy their time during this holidays, you may consider borrowing these books which are used by most mainstream secondary schools :

Insight Mathematics - for both Sec 1 & 2
GCE \"O\" Level Chemistry Matters (Publisher : Marshall Cavendish)
GCE \"O\" Level Physics Matters (Publisher : Marshall Cavendish)

These books may not be 100% fit as far as NUSH syllabus is concerned, but they are easy to understand and provide some good prior knowledge. For topics, you may download from the school website.

One other advice for all going into NUSH next year, take your graded assignment/worksheet, project work and tests seriously. For most subjects, these would contribute 70% towards the total grade, with the remaining 30% from semester end exams. In general, it is not too difficult to achieve 70-80% for these graded assignments/tests/projects. You can work out the numbers - if you can consistently achieve an average of 75% for these graded assignments/tests/projects, you would pass the subject even before taking the exams.

Hope this would allay some fear and anxiety. All the best to all those going into NUSH in 2012.

The English subject at Foundation Years (i.e. Y1 & Y2) is pretty unique - it combines English and Literature. For details, you may want to refer to the Programme of Studies which can be found in the school's website.

every normal person likes to ask, and
the respondent is very sick answer…
But never get the answer.
'cos there is no direct answer. If you have that kind of DNA,
you will not need to ask.

Nobody can duplicate the others totally.

If you are the type that with strong study ability, study hard + study smart, reading the environment well, how to emerge stronger when you are sinking or drifting apart, willing to trial & error, conviction to win, having secret receipe to succeed + some luck during exams, you are on the right track to score high distinction.

Sorry to ask the stupid question and thanks for the answer. I just like to compare my son’ s performance with the others. Because the newsletter said last year 30% graduates got high distinction and another 30% got distinction. Therefore says 60% students got above 4.0.
