Tablet application for assessment books launched

By Wayne Chan | Posted: 18 November 2011 1409 hrs
The e-assessment materials will be available through Skoob Go-easel, a service to be launched jointly by SingTel and Popular in January 2012.
SINGAPORE: Students preparing for exams will no longer need to lug heavy assessment books around anymore, thanks to a new tablet application called Go-easel.
                    :imcool:
It is the first application to provide access to over 100 assessment books on Apple iPad and Android-based tablets.

The application, launched on Friday by Popular Holdings at its BookFest, can be downloaded free at the Apple App store or at http://www.go-easel.com for Android users. :rahrah: :rahrah:

Popular also announced a partnership with SingTel to bring Go-easel into the telco's e-book service Skoob by January next year. 🕺 🕺

It said Go-easel's launch is in line with the government's move towards more e-learning.

The e-assessment materials will be available through Skoob Go-easel, a service to be launched jointly by SingTel and Popular in January 2012.

Chou Cheng Ngok, chairman of Popular Holdings, said: \"Ultimately, they want to transform the printed books into multimedia in time to come; as they say, the emphasis will be on the tablet.

\"When (students) read the book from the print media, it is very flat, but if they use this multimedia, the most valuable part is it becomes interactive.\"

Mr Chou, together with MediaCorp CEO Shaun Seow, also launched three cookbooks, based on food and travel shows aired on MediaCorp channels.

This is the sixth year that Popular is co-publishing books with MediaCorp.

Titles published over the last few years included the bilingual \"Heirloom Recipes\" and \"CEO: Face to Face\", a compilation of interviews with 26 CEOs of local companies, gleaned from two MediaCorp Chinese current affairs programmes - Money Week and Focus.

MediaCorp said it is pleased to extend its brand into a print extension with Popular, and that it will continue to explore with Popular the various TV and radio programmes that are suitable for print by mid-2012. It added that it is looking at publishing an additional three to five books next year.

Tang Yun Leung, vice president for Productions & Content Distribution at MediaCorp, said: \"We have been collaborating with Popular to release cookbook recipes based on our popular programmes such as 'Love on a Plate', 'Food Source' and '3-Plus-1'.

\"The quality of the books, the printing, the photos are very nicely done and have been well-received by the market, not only in Singapore but in Malaysia.

\"Since we are producing a lot of food programmes on our channels, so I think there is huge potential for us to collaborate with Popular in future to release more books.\"

The BookFest is on at Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre Halls 601-603 until November 27.
