Oh yes... Thank you!!

GreenQ:
I already answered your question, but I suppose in A level, we use z* rather than z(with - on top) to represent conjugate.
Thanks. The - sign is on top of z. Help pls....FrekiWang:
Your - means *(conjugate)?.... -

Last mth I bought the Casco Maths Tutor - bought for Sec 1, 2 and 3 (both A & B). Couldn't resist because we had a 30% discount voucher fm Casco (cheaper than BookFest). My son thought I was going nuts. Had to tell him that they were mainly for me to learn.
The books have explanations for the topics, some worked examples, teacher's tips, some basic drills, problem sums and some 'Thinking Skills Corner' at the end of each chapter. I guess like its title says - it is some kind of a tutor on paper.
Probably good for average students who wants to learn the basics first. For more 'advanced' students, they may find it not challenging enough. -

When you handle AM Trigo, do go through the formula sheet.Help needed for SEC 3 additional maths

Your question 1 requires you to use Double Angle formula such that sin4x=2sin2xcos2x. Factorize the cos2x, you should be able to move on.
Question 2 (look at your formula sheet!!), the only thing you can use is Factor Formula. The steps are:
1) Use Factor Formula by grouping \"cos (x) + cos 3(x)\" and \"cos 4(x) + cos 2(x) [Why: I don't like to deal with fractions]
2) Factorize 2 cos(x)
3) Use Factor Formula again and you are very near to solving.
Sorry, but my style is let people think deeper before I start to feed. So think harder again
I will save you if you really really can't get it

Go through the textbook, if you can finish all the questions in the textbook, its pretty good enough
Maths is about practising.
I also agree with BlurBerry. CASCO is good for self practice. There are worked examples, teacher's tips, some basic drills, problem sums (Which all
textbooks have) and worked solution. The variety of questions' difficulty is pretty good too. On the overall, its a good book for self learning. [For self learning, its better to have worked solution] -

Well.. you don't attend School just for the content knowledge. Your child learns to socialize, pick up values and knowledge through school activities and curriculum which no books can offer. On top of that, the school expose them a range of activities and help to realize your child full potential. For eg, I had a student who picked up golf and was groomed to be a professional golf player on top of academic studies, or school organized overseas adventurous trips which I don't think I have the strength to company my children to go.

Students nowadays like to try questions from assessment books without knowing that their textbook is actually a gem. Many of the questions from assessment books are similar to their own textbooks. Structure flow in learning is important, ie students exposed to easier questions before the difficult ones. Most of the textbooks such as Discovering Maths and Shinglee are able to achieve that.
Your question was preparing your child for Sec 1 learning. For a start, going through the textbook will be good. (Save $ mah
If the textbook cannot satisfy your child's hunger for knowledge, then you can start to look for assessment books such as CASCO or New Syllabus Mathematics Workbook. If it is still not enough then you can try \"Pass with Distinction\" Elementary Mathematics\" by Shinglee.
CASCO is good because it provides full worked solutions. Students normally give up as they feel frustrated when they faced obstacles from problems. So the worked solution does offer a little help when in need. Some parents enrolled their children into tuition programmes now so that they have an edge over other school mates as they learnt the topics before the school starts. And in such programmes, they provide all the materials.
Hope I answered your question

Personally, I find assessment books quite shallow. I used very little of it in secondary school and still got my distinctions in math. IMO, if you follow along the lesson in school, and do all the homework required (especially exam papers), you should be able to do well.
