It depends on what sport, and what level he is in. There are no official sports classes. Sometimes, however, there seem to be a lot of some kinds of sportsmen in certain classes. Ahem.
Hmm... Must be an insider to understand that last part  Thanks so much for your information. It's great that the sportsmen are spread around among the different classes.

Heh, ACS(I) has been SG's top boys' school in sports and games for every year since ST inaugurated that award, except for one year (I think 1999) in which the then Chinese High School won it on tiebreak. Every class has got sportsmen; it's just that some classes appear to have more of a particular kind of sportsman than others... 🙂

Heh, it's 10 min if you're young and fit, 15 min if not so young and not so fit... and yes, I did mean BV MRT.

The COP is driven by market forces. It went down recently because of the previous principal leaving the school under unusual circumstances. It should go up again.

Note: look at http://www.streetdirectory.com/asia_travel/travel/travel_id_5902/travel_site_10577/. Cut through Rochester Drive (see satellite map for route).
Would the new One North Mrt be closer to ACSI? What's the estimated walk time from here? Thanks

Yes, it is closer in terms of actual road distance, although it would appear roughly equidistant in straight-line distance. one-north MRT is actually across N Buona Vista Road from Dover Road. I have no personal experience walking it though, but I'd say about 2 min walking time less, depending on how long the traffic light is in the pedestrian's favour.

Another question. For the O level track, are the students slotted into classes based on their T-score or special abilities?

I understand at ACS Barker, they have 2 classes for their high ablility students and the rest of the classes are mixed abilities. Some school also has sport classes etc.

                  Thanks

The students are placed into classes with generally even distribution if they're not DSA entrants of certain kinds. There can, however, be many other reasons for assigning certain students to certain classes. For example, a class with many sportsmen from the same sports CCA can be treated in a unique way — a class with many tennis players can be released to support a tennis match, and so on.

It generally works out even. Personally, however, some teachers may think of specific classes as having 'too many sportsmen', with the idea that sportsmen have less time for academic achievement. Actually, if treated right, they have the mental discipline and time management to do well — in the past we've seen many scholar-sportsmen emerge from ACS(I) and other schools.

Generally, the range of student ability in a school like ACS(I) is much narrower than you would find elsewhere. After all, most of them enter through a multi-layered selection process.

Hi parents of ACSI, or anyone who knows the workings of the schools, I urgently need your advice…Heard many comments. But not sure how true they are…

My son has applied for ACSI for S1 posting, after PSLE. Awaiting posting results on 21 Dec’11. He may just make it to the IB track. But we are also looking at contingency plans.

                        1. Heard of ACSI teachers being very stretched and do not have time to guide the students. Students get quite a lot of relief teachers too. Though we want our kids to learn independence, we are afraid it is a swim or sink situation. Can anyone verify this please?

                        2. What’s the attrition rate of IP students, ie those who can’t continue with IP and has to go back to ACSI ‘O’ level stream?

                        3. For the O level track, does ACSI band the students say into high ability class, special subject talents, etc. so as to develope these students who may qualify for IB but who choose the O level track. Likewise, if a student finds IB not suitable n decides to move to O level, will he b streamed into the high ability O level class? Some parents mentioned that ACSI ‘O’ level track is treated as ‘2nd class’ and results are a miserable band 4. IP schools are not required to report their O level results in detail.

This qn is particularly important as in good O level schools like SJI, 8 out of 10 classes are banded to maximise potential. (All rounder, Maths, Science, Com Science, Arts, Language, etc). I believe that’s the reason they could produce good results almost ‘effortlessly’ as commented by parents in SJI network forum.

                        4. For kids who play games like tennis n chess but is not at a level good enough for school team, heard that there is no opportunity for them to join in the tennis or chess club. Know of one IB kid who did not have the chance to do chess. He quit IB (among other reasons), went to a JC and was developed into chess captain and even met ACSI boys in the chess competion. Sec school years is the best time to develop. If a school is too focused on winning medals, then only the small handful of sportsmen will enjoy the spectrum of CCAs, and doors are closed to the majority.

I would really appreciate it if anyone can validate some of the views I gathered above. Had been a stressful time in school selection.
